The Place Located in Orchid Hotel in Tanjong Pagar, Mizuya is a small and cosy Japanese omakase restaurant. It has been opened for about two years and only has counter seats, where it serves up lunch and dinner omakase. 

The Food I had their Mizu 13 Course (S$138/pax) menu and here is what to expect. 

The meal started with seasonal starters like Shirako and Amberjack with caviar, Uni and Ikura. Next up is a series of assorted Sashimi such as Hirame, Otoro, Akagai, Sea Bream; followed by Chawanmushi with Crab and Ikura. I then had the Chef’s Selection of 5 Pieces Sushi – Shima Aji with yuzu; Akami topped with ginger; Uni wrapped in seaweed; Kamasu (Barracudas); and Scallop which is lightly seared and topped with foie gras. The last savoury course is Rice topped with Uni and Ikuura, followed by Hamaguri clam soup, and dessert.

Thin Sliced White Fish (white bait fish) With Signature Topping 

Shirako 

Amberjack with Spring Onion, Caviar, Uni, Ikura 

Assorted Sashimi 
Hirame, Otoro, Akagai, Sea Bream 

Maguro which is lightly grilled over binchotan 

Premium Chawanmushi 
The chawanmushi comes with crab and ikura. 

Cooked Dishes 
A seasonal item where I had the grilled baby sea bream. 

Chef’s Selection 5 Pieces Sushi 
Shima Aji with yuzu 

Akami topped with ginger 

Uni wrapped in seaweed 

Kamasu (Barracudas) 

Scallop 
This is lightly seared and topped with foie gras. 

Finishing Dish 
A simple rice dish topped with Uni and Ikura. 

Soup 
Served with the rice is a hamaguri clam soup.   

Dessert 
Matcha ice cream is served to conclude the meal. 

Rants The simple decor makes the dining ambience a basic one.

Will I Return Again? A no-frills spot for Japanese omakase in Tanjong Pagar. Mizuya is an easy option for a casual omakase setting, and their prices are also relatively competitive in this aspect.
