Hotel Review: Regent Beijing Classic Room | Centrally Located Michelin Guide Hotel

The Hotel Located on Jinbao Street in Dongcheng just a stone’s throw from Wangfujing’s shopping district, I stayed at Regent Beijing last month. The lobby of the IHG hotel is contemporary classic – high ceiling spacious, and a check-in process which was seamless. I appreciate that my room was ready even though I arrived early in the morning.

The hotel’s very central location in the heart of Beijing is also well-connected by public transport as two subway stations are a short stroll away.

The Room Rooms at Regent Beijing are generously sized by city standards.

I checked into the Classic Room (45 sq. m. / 484 sq. ft.) which is located on the 6th to 11th floors. Expect plush carpets underfoot, beds that skew on the firmer side (in a good way), and blackout curtains that do what they promise.

The palette runs calm—creams, beiges, walnut tones—with occasional silk or lacquer accents that nod to Beijing’s heritage.

The bathroom is a highlight for me with a separate soaking tub and walk‑in rain shower.

The Facilities The hotel’s facilities do the basics well and a bit more.

There is an indoor heated Pool for laps, framed by floor‑to‑ceiling windows. The adjacent heated whirlpool is a bonus. Within each gender’s changing room are also facilities like sauna, steam room and jacuzzi.

The Gym is bright and decently equipped with free weights, a handful of benches, and enough treadmills. Note that if you want to use the gym after 10pm (which I did on two occasions), you need to head to the front desk to get a staff to open it for you.

There is also a Spa which I did not manage to try.

I managed to have access to the Executive Lounge which is well-appointed. It is located on level 17, and you get a great view of the city (as far as Forbidden City) on a good day.

I love the high ceiling of the lounge, where breakfast spread is decent and the service is good in the sense the staff takes the initiative to check if you need anything.

Other than the small buffet spread for breakfast, there is also an ala carte menu where you can order unlimited servings of various dishes.

Other than breakfast, club lounge guests also get the usual afternoon tea treats and evening canapes which I did not manage to have time to check out.

The Restaurants There are a couple of dining concepts – Lobby Lounge for coffee and afternoon tea, Morton’s Of Chicago for steaks and seafood, Daccapo Italian RestaurantLei Garden for Cantonese fares and Jinbao 99 for modern Asian specialties and international fares.

Rants The room design is admittedly dated.

Overall Experience I had a pleasant stay to say the least where the centralized location of Regent Beijing is the main draw for me. It is a refined and conveniently located stay with the right balance of polish and warmth, at an affordable price tag as well if you were to benchmark it to the Waldorf Astoria Beijing located just five minutes walk away.
