Food Review: Les Canons At IOI Central Boulevard Towers | Wallet-friendly French Bistro Restaurant In CBD
The Place Another new dining spot in the CBD. Opening at the IOI Building in Singapore’s Central Business District, the ilLido Group — the hospitality group behind Baia, Sospiri, and Southbridge – introduces Les Canons, a new casual French bistro restaurant. The concept of Les Canons is inspired by the neighbourhood bistros of Paris, where you can expect familiar French comfort dishes in an all-day format.

It is a vibrant dining ambience with a small bar area and a main dining hall. No private rooms, and the tables are stacked closely together.
The Food Menu highlights include Escargots, garlic butter snails served with baguette; Steak au Poivre, Angus sirloin with pepper sauce and fries; and Tarte Fine aux Pommes, a classic apple tart served with creme chantilly. There is also a small selection of snacks designed for casual nibbling or to accompany drinks.
For beverages, the selection spans over 50 French wines available by the glass and bottle, with glasses starting from $8 and all bottles priced under $100, Cocktail options include Aperol Spritz ($8), Hugo Spritz ($8), Negroni ($12), Gin & Tonic ($6) and Highball ($6).
For a start, I had the Smoked Salmon Rillette ($9) served with baguette bread. I enjoyed the salmon rillette itself, but the baguette is way too hard.

The Calamari ($10) served with cocktail sauce is a safe bet where the fried squid goes well with the delicious cocktail sauce.

The Escargots (S$12) which comes with half a dozen garlic butter snails is similarly served with the tough baguette as with the Smoked Salmon Rillette.

For a soup dish, I went for the Soupe À L’oignon (S$10), a classic French Onion Soup which is decent in taste for the price.

On to mains, I had the Steak au Poivre (S$22) where you get angus sirloin served with pepper sauce and fries. While it is not expensive, the steak is a small portion.

I also tried the Coq au Vin (S$16) which is chicken braised in red wine. There are hints of herbal notes in the sauce here, where the overall flavour and portion are decent for its price.

For desserts, expect the likes of Tarte Fine aux Pommes (S$9), a classic apple tart served with creme Chantilly; Mousse Au Chocolat (S$8) which is Dark Chocolate Mousse with a whole lot of cream on top; and Mont Blanc (S$9) where the Chestnut Meringue is paired with Hazelnut Ice Cream. Overall, the desserts lean toward the sweet spectrum and there is a lot of cream which I am not fond of.

Rants The space is really cramped and there is no space to place bags. It also gets quite noisy when it is packed.
Will I Return Again? It is a smart concept in the CBD where the prices at Les Canons are very competitive, be it for food or drinks. Do not come expecting top notch French fares but treat it as a bargain spot for casual French bistro food.
