Food Review: Linkus (临家) Hokkien Flavour At Suntec City Mall | Minnan Specialty Cuisine Restaurant From Fujian, China
The Place Suntec City mall has undergone quite a couple of new dining concepts in the past one year and one of the newest restaurants to open last month is Linkus (临家), a Fujian (Hokkien) restaurant which hails from China. Linkus is located at Tower 5 of the mall, right opposite Sen-ryo on level one, where it takes up a spacious corner unit.

The interior of Linkus is elegant, characterized by wooden tones, warm lighting and it exudes a cosy ambience. It was very packed on a Friday evening with a long waiting time if you did not reserve.

The Food The menu showcases authentic Fujian dishes with signatures like Braised Noodles with Seafood and Pork Belly, Fried Hokkien Mee, and seafood dishes.
I started with a soup dish – Quanzhou Intangible Cultural Heritage Beef Soup (S$24.90) which is a bowl of nourishing Quanzhou homestyle soup. The flavour is slightly peppery, and it does remind me of local Singaporean ‘bak kut teh’ soup.

The Quanzhou Ginger Duck (S$29.90) is a heritage imperial cuisine with more than a thousand years of history, and this tender duck I had is prepared with aged ginger as well.

One dish which has straits influence here is the Xiamen Satay Seafood (S$39.90) where Minnan ancestors brought ‘Satay’ from Southeast Asia back home. Overall, it tastes just like a curry dish for me with an assortment of ingredients like octopus, fishballs and beancurd.

There is also the Minnan Assorted Snacks (S$20.90) – Minnan Vinegar Marinated Pork, Anhai Radish Cake, Chongwu Fish Roll – a take on the street food scene where the flavours come across as something familiar to me where the radish cake reminds me of the fried carrot sticks we have in our hawker stalls.

After all the heavy profile dishes, the Passion Fruit Juice-Marinated Fruit Pulp (S$9.90) works as a palate cleanser dish where it is sweet and tangy.

For desserts, I tried the Anxi Tieguanyin-Infused Shihuagao With Crispy Seaweed Sesame Balls (S$9.90) where the cooling Quanzhou sea moss jelly is something which existed since Ming Dynasty. Served with seaweed sesame cakes which is a Minnan nostalgic dessert.

The Iced Silky Xiamen Peanut Soup (S$9.90) is essentially a cold version of the hot peanut soup I am used to having in Singapore.

Rants Waiting time can be long, even if you have made a reservation.
Will I Return Again? It is interesting to see more Minnan restaurants open in Singapore, and I like that there is a good variety of dishes at Linkus. The dining ambience is conducive and elegant, though it is very busy especially during peak dining hours and weekends. Prices of the dishes are on the higher spectrum, so it is most ideal for small groups where you can order a good variety and not feel the pinch too much.
