The Place Tucked away on the level two of Orchard Plaza, Momoya is the sort of place you walk past a hundred times without batting an eye — until someone tells you, “Eh, this one damn solid.” And they’re right. Despite being surrounded by… other types of night-time businesses, Momoya stands out as an honest, no-frills Japanese joint. It is a small dining space with cramped tables and counter seats, a no-frills set up which is befitting of Orchard Plaza. 

The Food The menu is a wide assortment from sashimi to salad to steaks. As it was my first time, I went with the recommendations of my friend who has been here a couple of times. 

For a start, who knows Chive Egg (S$15) could taste this good? It is a simple looking plate of runny egg with generous toppings of chives, and the combination works wonders on the palate. 

As if the Chive Egg is not enough, I also had the Chive Pork (S$20) which comes with generous slices of tender pork meat. 

For something easy to snack on, I recommend going for the Octopus Karaage (S$10) where the golden crisp texture is addictive, 

If you are sharing dishes, the Tempura is a safe pick: crisp batter, not oily, and served piping hot. Go for the Oita Specialty Chicken Tempura (S$18) where the chicken meat is juicy and tender. 

I decided to order a beef dish and no regrets getting the A5 Japanese Beef from Miyazaki Yukke (raw) (S$28) – fresh and flavourful.

Rants The dining space is quite tight, and you need to reserve early. 

Will I Return Again? Momoya is one of Orchard’s best-kept mid-range Japanese secrets — honest food, homely flavours and no-frills. If you want quality Japanese food without the fuss, or the influencer‑bait plating, Momoya is the place to return.
