Food Review: Sio Pasta At Raffles City | Wallet-Friendly Japanese Italian Pasta From S$13.80!

The Place Located at the basement of Raffles City Shopping Centre beside Wo Wo Dian, the newest addition to the ever-changing dining landscape of the shopping mall in Cityhall is Sio Pasta, a casual offshoot of the Michelin-recognised Sio Aoyama. This is the brand’s first venture beyond Japan where Sio Pasta Singapore is guided by renowned chef Shusaku Toba.

The space of Sio Pasta is not big with limited seating capacity, made up of a few small tables, a long communal table, as well as counter seating.

The Food The pasta is made freshly in-house, where the menu features over 10 fresh handcrafted pasta dishes starting from S$13.80, which is a very competitive and accessible price for its location. To complement the pastas, there are also a couple of side dishes like Japanese-style fried chicken, a small selection of pizzas, and desserts. For beverages, wines and highballs start from S$9.80.

I started with the Baguette and Fig Butter (S$4.80) which comes with a thick slab of homemade fig butter.

The majority of the pasta dishes here at Sio Pasta is the Japanese take on this Italian staple, so do not expect the very traditional Italian-style pastas. The first pasta I tried was the Fried Egg, Cheese, Salted Kelp (S$13.80). Overall, the flavours are balanced, and the pasta’s texture is al dente enough for me.

The Best Mentaiko Pasta (S$16.80) is topped with heaps of fresh mentaiko. Mix the mentaiko evenly with the pasta and it is not too cloying, though it does not taste as layered as the Fried Egg, Cheese, Salted Kelp for me.

The last pasta I tried was Neapolitan beyond Neapolitan (S$13.80) which is a tomato-based pasta. I used to fancy cream-based pastas more than tomato-based ones, but my palate preference is now more tolerable of tomato-based pastas.

This version spots a sweeter flavour profile as compared to the above two pastas, where the pasta is mixed with slices of sausages, mushrooms and bell peppers.

Rants No reservations are taken at the moment.

Will I Return Again? I can’t complain that there is another wallet-friendly dining spot in Raffles City with the addition of Sio Pasta. With prices from S$13.80, the quality of the freshly prepared pastas here are definitely worth a try.
