The Place From the same group behind Skinny Pizza, Barracks @ House is one of the F&B franchises by The Spa Esprit Group. Nestled in a foresty corner of Dempsey Hill, I like the concept of Barracks @ House which was a former British military barracks. The building is as untouched as it can get, and it makes me feel like I am reliving the colonial days of the last century as I stepped into the place.
The spacious interior of Barracks is very welcoming, not to mention that the chic industrial design adds to the laidback ambience as well.
The dining area is divided into 3 sections – the main area (as seen in the picture above), the inner section (picture below) and the alfresco dining area.
I was glad that my table was in the inner section of the restaurant, away from the boisterous main crowd.
For tea lovers, there is the Muah Muah Black Tea Pot ($8) which is as refreshing as it sounds.
For starters, we ordered the much hyped Truffle Fries ($11) which lives up to its reputation as one of the best Truffle Fries around in town as professed by many Truffle Fries lovers.
For mains, we tried the Eggs Benedict ($18) which has ham and baby spinach poured over with Hollandaise Sauce. I would say the standard of the Eggs Benedict is above average but still a notch below the ones from Wild Honey.
With much anticipation, I ordered the Old-fashioned American Sliders ($23) as well because I was craving for beef burger. To add on the enticement, it is also served with generous servings of Truffle Fries and Sweet Potato. This chef recommendation is pretty value for money, except that the medium-well beef is too dry for my liking, definitely not one of the best beef burgers around.
Will I return again? For a chill out Brunch session with friends, Barracks is definitely worth the return ticket. While the food at Barracks is not exceptionally out of the world, the ambience of the lush surroundings certainly makes up for it’s shortfalls.
