The Place Previously located at the demolished Lavender Food Centre, the famous Kok Kee Wanton Noodle run by an elderly couple has relocated to Hoa Nam Building along Foch Road in Jalan Besar, right beside its previous location. The stall is now housed within a coffeeshop, and the queue is somehow not as crazy as the past.
*Kok Kee Wanton Noodle is part of our list of 22 Top Food Hunts in Jalan Besar Neighbourhood.
The Food Available at $4.50 or $5.50, we still love the special sauce used in the noodles and the crispy fried wanton which we usually order as a side dish. The noodles is so good on its own that we rank Kok Kee as one of the best wanton noodles in Singapore. The taste of the noodles is old school wanton mee, something which is missing in many wanton noodles stalls these days. I felt like my hunger pangs was not satisfied even after ordering the larger portion ($5.50), a problem I face after having something that is too good.
Rants Opening hours are erratic though, so don’t be surprised if you pop by an evening and the stall is closed.
Will I Return Again? Kok Kee Wanton Mee is the kind of comfort food I will keep returning for. I have eaten many wanton mee in Singapore, but nothing really comes quite close to this version. Don’t ever miss out trying this if you are in the Jalan Besar enclave.
