Food Review: Little Diner at Bukit Timah Road | Hidden gem serving good old style American food [Closed]

The Place I was casually chatting with H the other day and asked for dining recommendation in Bukit Timah. She mentioned Little Diner near Sixth Avenue, and I was surprised that I have never heard of this restaurant previously. The cosy restaurant has been around for a few years in this precinct, serving good old American style cuisine. It feels at home when I stepped into Little Diner, where you can come in your most comfy wear without being judged.

The Food
No pretense and honest food in generous portions, this is set out in Little Diner’s website and I must say that they have stayed true to their food motto. The portions of what we ordered are generous for the price we paid, which I feel is pretty good value for money in today’s context.

We started with the Wild Mushroom Soup (S$9) with Truffle Oil & Garlic Croutons, a hearty rendition which made us look forward to the rest of our mains.

The Version 2 Mac & Cheese Royale (S$20.50) is highly recommended if you are a fan of this classic dish. This version has traces of Truffle Oil and Wild Mushrooms, which made it all the more delectable for me. I like it that the Mac & Cheese did not get too cloying for me, but that said, it is always a good idea to share this out.

The most sinful order we had was the American Buttermilk Fried Chicken (S$18.5), where the crispy chicken was drizzled with Maple syrup and served with fries and homemade coleslaw. The portion is huge, but I wasn’t complaining as the crispy chicken skin was simply such a sinful delight to savour. The maple syrup complimented the tender chicken meat to give it the additional sweet flavour which I enjoyed on this otherwise savoury dish.

Rants
Parking can be a problem if you are driving. To play safe, you can park at the building along Sixth Avenue, where Little Diner is about a five minutes’ walk away.

Will I return again? Little Diner is a gem in Bukit Timah. The prices are reasonable and the food is surprisingly good for its value. This is a good spot for a good gathering without breaking the bank and best of all, you get to enjoy your food in hearty portions.
