The Place Just a short walk away from Singapore’s party-goers favourite hangout, Clarke Quay, the Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay is a frills-free hotel catering for both the savvy business travellers and the leisure tourists looking for a well-located and affordable hotel. 5 minutes walk from the Clarke Quay MRT, and perhaps the same time to take you from the hotel to either Clarke Quay, Chinatown and the hipster district of Robertson Quay.
Upon arrival, you will realise that the hotel looks way better than the price of the room, a new modern building packing more than 400 rooms into a small premise which is just 7-storeys high, you can imagine the size of each room – which ain’t big, but more than enough frankly!
The Rooms At Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay, you either go for the Rooms facing the city or not, that simple. The room can be easily expanded visually by opening up both the sliding doors at the toilet, and you will get to see through the entire room from the showers to the work desk – not that you actually need this. Fitting in nicely a Queen-sized bed, a good-sized working table and a wall-mount television with all the international channels – and perhaps the item that will interest us most, the Handy Smartphone.
The smartphone is available at all rooms, and the guests can bring the phones out giving them unlimited local and international calls and unlimited mobile internet!
If you are looking to chill at the room, expect free wifi and you get to enjoy a choice of both soft and firm pillows too!
The Facilities If you were told this is the budget option of the IHG brand, you would have lowered your expectations of your stay. But at Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay, you shouldn’t. Guests get to enjoy a full suite of facilities here, including the highly raved rooftop swimming pool, fitness centre, DIY laundry, and even a popular cafe chain at the lobby, Baker & Cook.
Make sure you get yourself some time at the 40 meters swimming pool during your stay here, with the glass walled swimming pool ideal for a short lap while you enjoy a sweeping view of the Singapore City skyline.
The Restaurant Only drawback here is that the hotel provides for a breakfast-only restaurant here, Great Room. So when you have that sudden hunger cravings at the hotel, you will have to head down to Baker & Cook, or satisfy this through the snacks vending machines located at the lobby as well. Of course, room service options are available as well – although as with all such services, the food comes at a slight premium.
The breakfast comes complimentary with all stays here, and you can expect an international spread and some mass produced bakes. What’s good is the selection of healthy snacks such as yogurt, fruits and cereals. The free flow drinks machines here also gives you some decent coffee options, which on the whole, provides for a rather satisfactory meal to start your day.
Rants Frankly, for the affordable room rate here and its centralised location, you are getting huge value at the hotel. However, if there’s something the hotel can work on, it would most definitely be working on it’s food options – perhaps a discount for all its guests at Baker & Cook or more ready meals vending machines?
Overall Experience Definitely one that gives you much bang for your buck! The affordable room rates for a hotel that delivers well on all the basics and yet centrally located in the heart of Singapore, this is one hotel for the savvy business travellers and budget conscious travellers. For the local staycation seekers, there’s an ongoing Stay and Play package where guests enjoy early check-in (12pm) and late check-out (3pm) – there’s nothing better than maximising your stay during the weekends!
