The Place Do we need more cafes in Upper Thomson? The answer is apparently a yes, as the one month old Colombus Coffee Co. was fully packed when I checked it out on a weekend morning. Opened by the same team behind the successful Atlas Coffeehouse in Bukit Timah, the space of Colombus Coffee is huge and the owners surely know the concept of revenue maximisation.
The atmosphere is boisterous due the set up of the space, while the interior takes on a relatively bare look with minimal touches. Tables are placed close to one another, which feels to me like dining privacy is a luxury here.
The Food The breakfast and brunch menu is very exhaustive, where you can find your usual egg dishes, burgers, pastas and even salmon soba noodles is on the menu here. For beverages, it is another one page of selections from white and black coffee, tea, filter coffee and juices.
I had the Creamy Mushrooms on Toasted Sourdough (S$14) with addition of scrambled eggs (S$3). The scrambled eggs is the highlight here, especially after its cooked with white wine, along with sautéed sundries tomatoes. Had this previously at Atlas back in 2016, and glad to note that it is still as satisfying.
Visited Columbus Coffee after some local fare at the neighbouring Sembawang Hills Food Centre’s Teochew Minced Meat Noodles, and sadly was not able to order more for brunch. Although there’s always space for some coffee, with the Flat White (S$5) being my usual order.
Rants This is not a cafe if you are seeking for a quiet time to catch up with friends, or even for some me-time. The most appropriate word to describe the environment at Columbus Coffee Co. is perhaps “Canteen”.
Will I Return Again? The food is enjoyable, at least what I had. But the space ain’t. Not a top choice for me to return frankly.
