Food Review: Paradise Classic at Marina Bay Link Mall | Casual Chinese Restaurant in Singapore’s CBD

The Place With a few outlets in Singapore such as Marina Bay Link Mall, Paradise Classic is just one of the many dining concepts by Paradise Group which include the very popular Beauty in the Pot. The MBLM outlet is a popular spot during weekday lunch hours and I very much prefer to enjoy a more peaceful dining ambience in the evening. The space is a typical Chinese restaurant look, with a good mix of tables to suit different party sizes in relatively open setting. Interestingly, there are quite a couple of new Chinese restaurants which have opened at MBLM this year, such as Forbidden Duck by acclaimed Hong Kong Chef Alvin Leung, and Hong Kong’s Michelin-Starred Qi – House of Sichuan.

The Food The menu at Paradise Classic is quite extensive, which boasts a good selection of classic Cantonese soups if you are looking for something nourishing. The main difference of the menu from Canton Paradise is that there is no dim sum selection on the menu here.

I started with the Grandma’s Scrambled Egg with Tomato (S$9.80), one of my favourite ways of whipping up an egg dish. I like the runny texture of the eggs here, though I feel that the flavour of the egg could be heavier.

The Hot Plate Tofu with Preserved Cai Xin and Minced Pork (S$13.80) is one of those hearty dishes to go along with rice. The soft tofu goes well with the minced pork and there is nothing to rant about the extra layer of egg beneath.

If you are into salted egg like me (which by the way doesn’t necessarily work for every ingredient in the world), this Crispy Fried Crystal Prawn tossed with Salted Egg Yolk (S$22.80) is a good treat if your gym sessions have served you well. My only gripe is that the portions are a tad too little for the price.

An alternative to rice which I tried is the Braised Vermicelli with Pork Trotters (S$13.80), where the moist vermicelli soak up the essence of the pork trotters well to lend it a nice flavour.

Rants The MBLM outlet is very packed during weekday lunch hours, which usually makes the dining experience feel very rushed as well. I recommend heading here during the weekends or dinner hours on weekdays for a better dining ambience.

Will I Return Again? If you are looking for a casual Chinese restaurant in town, Paradise Classic is a decent option to satisfy your Chinese food cravings.
