Food Review: Senso Ristorante & Bar at Club Street | Italian Sunday Brunch Buffet at this enduring establishment [Closed]

The Place It’s rare that a restaurant has survived more than a decade in CBD, to be specific 18 years. Italian establishment Senso Ristorante & Bar has been opened since 2000 along Club Street, just minutes walk from Telok Ayer MRT Station. The compound of the restaurant is relatively big, which boasts an outdoor courtyard dining area which I reckon is not the most comfortable during the Singapore weather. The 180 seater restaurant is also the combination of five heritage houses.

The Food I checked out the Sunday Prosecco Brunch recently for the first time, priced at S$68++ per person with free flow juices. You can opt to top up S$30++ for free flow Prosecco & juices, or S$40++ with the addition of wine, beer, soft drinks and coffee. To start, some of the antipasti spread include Normandy Oysters, Prawns, Italian Cold Cuts, Salads and freshly-baked Breads.

There is also a live station which rotates weekly. I happened to have the Risotto Carnaroli with Summer Black Truffles prepared ala minute, which is quite rich in flavour. For mains, you get to choose from an unlimited selection of pastas and meats, all served in a small individual portion. The pastas fared better than the meats for me, at least.

Some of the paste selections from the ala carte selection includes the Gnocchi with Forest Mushrooms and Summer Black Truffles, and the Rigatoni with Crab Meat, Tomato Sauce and Summer Black Truffles. Whereas for mains, go for the Scallop with Cauliflower mousse, Squid Ink Sauce and Summer Black Truffles, and the Beef Tagliata with Senso Puree, Rucola, and the Summer Black Truffles sauce.

For desserts, expect the likes of Tiramisu, Mini Dark Chocolate or Lemon Tarts, Macaroons, Profiteroles and Brownies.

Rants The lighting of the restaurant feels a little sleepy during the day, unless you are willing to brave the heat at the outdoor tables.

Will I Return Again? There are not many pure Italian buffets in town, other than Basilico at Regent Singapore. The price at Senso is competitive for a weekend brunch buffet to consider, and fancy enjoying that in a heritage shophouse decor.

This was an invited tasting, though all opinions expressed are our own.
