Food Review: Pin Ji Fishball Minced Meat Noodles (品记) At Serangoon North | Delicious Herh Keow And Noodles By New Generation Hawkers

The Place Serangoon North has some of the best food in the North-East of Singapore. Located in the same coffeeshop as Xiao Di Fried Prawn Noodle, Pin Ji Fishball Minced Meat Noodles is a two months old stall run by a young generation of hawkers. I visited the stall on a Sunday morning, and there was a decent queue where you can’t miss the bright white signboard of the stall.

The Food Only minced meat noodles is served at Small (S$3), Medium (S$4) or Large (S$5). One of the reasons I wanted to check out Pin Ji is because I found out that it served ‘herh keow‘ in its noodles, a type of fish dumpling which is rare to come across these days. This reminds me of Song Kee Fishball Noodle which is most famously known for its delicious ‘herh keow‘.

I ordered the large portion as only the S$5 order comes with ‘herh keow‘. First on the noodles, I do like the springy texture. It is slightly on the tough side so you may not like it if you like your noodles soft. Do remember to ask for chilli sauce as the chilli is quite good, and it definitely adds to the flavour of the noodles.

The fish balls are delicious too. Not your typical factory fishball round shape, the fishballs here are soft in texture and is an oval-shape version.

Next on is the ‘herh keow‘. There is only one piece of it with the noodles, so I decided to order an extra bowl of ‘Herh Keow‘ Soup (S$5/5 pieces) as I was feeling greedy. The homemade ‘herh keow‘ is commendable, with a smooth and soft texture, filled with some minced pork. That said, I don’t remember it being as good as Song Kee’s version which in all honesty is quite a distant memory for me. Regardless, it is above average.

Rants The waiting time may be long as there is only one main cook and every order is freshly prepared.

Will I Return Again? For an above average fishball noodles, yes. The ‘herh keow‘ aside, I do enjoy the noodles and fishballs as well.
