Hotel Review: Pool Terrace Room At Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel | Direct Pool Access For A Blissful Escape
The Hotel Staycation is my closest escape from work now given the current climate we are in, and most luxury hotels in Singapore have launched attractive staycation packages to woo the local market. I checked in to the Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel this month where the Marriot property has an ongoing attractive Blissful Escapes package priced from S$380++ per room, per night, for stays from Fridays to Sundays. I was excited as it was my first time checking out the Pool Terrace Room as my previous stay was at the Executive Room.
There are quite a couple of attractive staycation packages at the moment, which I have shared in my previous article.
The Room For the Blissful Escapes package, it includes a one night stay in the luxurious Pool Terrace Room with direct access to the swimming pool or Executive Suite. It is basically a 24-hour use of room, subject to availability, so your check-in and check-out time is pretty flexible. The package also include complimentary breakfast for up to two persons, and one complimentary parking.
I checked into the Pool Terrace Room and was lucky to be assigned the corner room number 4, which comes with its own private cabana. The Pool Terrace Rooms are quite exclusive, as there are only 9 such rooms in the property.
Bali vibes much? Just ignore the Ion Orchard in the background.
The Pool Terrace Room is a spacious 42sqm, which includes M Club Lounge access. Unfortunately, the M Club Lounge is currently closed at the moment and is being used to facilitate temperature taking for the pool access. I like the interior of the Pool Terrace Room much more than the typical Executive Suite, as the direct pool access appeal also makes it feel more resort-like.
The room is fitted with a King bed, and also has a working desk with ergonomic chair if you need to catch up on some work.
My favourite part of the room is the spacious bathroom, decked in dark grey tones with little natural light streaming through the double sink area.
The natural light which comes through adds much resort-feel to the room. Choose to shower in the standing area, or soak in the free-standing bath tub, complete with Thann bathroom amenities.
The Facilities With the main pool on level 5 as the Pool Terrace Rooms and the gym at level 4, you need to pre-book your slots for the use of the pool or gym, both in two hours intervals which is quite sufficient. I understand that Raffles Singapore does 90 minutes slots of their pool and gym in comparison.
The best part of the main pool is the cabana, ideal for small groups or families. The length of the pool is not that long, though there is jacuzzi feature to relax in.
The gym is quite well-equipped if you need to pump some adrenaline, and there is even a small outdoor basketball court which is accessible from the gym.
The M Club Lounge is also located on level 5 and for this period, club lounge benefits which including complimentary evening cocktails, wines and canapés are served on level 1 instead.
For some spa time, Serena Spa is the place to be in. With strong India influences, the signature spa experiences here are Ayurveda-inspired massages. With five treatment rooms, and each with an attached shower facilities, you would not need to be walking back-and-forth a centralised facility. Frankly, the most impressive facility here is the built-in steam room shower, where you can enjoy both experiences in a single space.
The Restaurants The all-day dining concept is Marriott Cafe, where breakfast is served. Breakfast is currently done via an ordering form, and you can select from the mix of eggs, juices, bread, meat dishes and other side dishes, complete with coffee or tea.
On the other hand, Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant is the property’s renowned dining concept. For something casual and to people watch, Crossroads at level one is ideal.
Another perk of the Blissful Escapes package include a complimentary Delightful English High Tea with Champagne for two persons at the lobby. It is a three-tier affair with a mix of sweet and savoury bites, and compete with champagne. Choose from the wide TWG selection or coffee as well, and the surprising fact as I understood from the staff is that the beverages are free-flow! It was hard to believe, as most hotel afternoon teas limit the beverage consumption to at most two selections.
The package also comes with complimentary evening canepes and alcoholic beverages at the M Club Lounge access. As the M Club Lounge access is closed during this period, it is instead served at Java+ restaurant at the lobby. The food is a good selection of mains and starters, where you simply pass your orders to the staff who will serve it to your table. Needless to say, you can also enjoy unlimited pours of alcoholic beverages.
Rants The electrical sockets in the room are quite limited, so I suggest bringing your own multi-plug if you have numerous gadgets or electronic devices.
Overall Experience I really enjoyed the stay at the Pool Terrace Room and it is really an edge over the Executive Room for me, with the direct pool access. The location of the property is in the heart of Orchard Road, which makes it very convenient for some shopping or dining. It is a shame that the M Club Lounge is not operating at the moment and I hope to check it out in the near future.
