Food Review: Ark Coffee At Lengkok Bahru | Delicious Cheese & Spicy Beef Bulgogi Jaffles At S$5.50 Near Redhill MRT Station

The Place After seeing posts of their sandwiches on social media, I knew I have to check out Ark Coffee located in Lengkok Bahru. In fact, what took me so long to do so? There is nothing glam about the space, as it occupies one half of the coffeeshop space in a mature estate. The brand started as a mobile coffee business in 2019 by friends Beatrice and Bevelyn, before opening its physical space in the now-defunct Katong outlet, and its current location in Lengkok Bahru.

The name ark takes reference to a huge boat that can accommodate many, and the team hopes to invite people to join them on their coffee and food journey.

The Food The main food option here is their Jaffle, a cross between toasted sandwich and waffle which usually comes with cheese. There are many flavours to choose from, and I was torn trying to decide as it was my first time here.

I decided to have the Myong Ok’s Spicy Beef Bulgogi (S$5.50), as it is quite rare to see a Korean inspired sandwich flavour even in cafes. It is not that spicy, and I find it quite moreish as it is very flavourful from the not-so-spicy sauce. The texture of the Jaffle is good too, not too thick yet slightly crispy.

You can opt for a Jaffles + Soup Of The Day (S$7) set where I had the Pumpkin and Sweet Potato soup. The texture of the soup is thick and the taste is quite smooth and luscious. If I were to rate, it is restaurant standard for sure.

The Fun-Guy (S$5.50) sounds too good to pass as well. This is a combination of mushrooms, garlic and melted cheese. It is not the overly cheesy kind of sandwich, but you still get a nice cheese stretch!

This flavour is equally good, and it is surprisingly not too cloying for me. I opted to have the Jaffles + Fries (S$7) set and one option of the fries flavour is curry fries. I highly recommend trying the curry fries sprinkled with curry powder, really crispy and addictive!

And if you add on coffee to your food orders, it is just S$2 for hot specialty brews, and S$3 for cold specialty brews. I had the iced black and hot white coffee, where the coffee flavour is intense by cafe standards and for the price, it is very good value.

Rants Can’t rant about the lack of air-conditioning for the affordable pricing. I did sweat a little after my meal.

Will I Return Again? This is hidden gem tucked away in an old estate yet it is a short walking distance from Redhill MRT Station. With Jaffles from S$5.50, the value is unbeatable and the best thing? The quality is cafe standard at a fraction of cafe prices. I will be back!
