Food Review: Saketoshi At UE Square Shopping Mall | Casual Japanese Izakaya Restaurant In Robertson Quay

The Place Located at UE Square Shopping Mall, Saketoshi is a new contemporary Japanese Izakaya restaurant located on level one of the Robertson Quay precinct. The interior of Saketoshi is not huge, with a few indoor tables and an outdoor seating area. And one of the USP of Saketoshi – it accepts crypto currency as a form of payment.

The Food The menu is quite extensive, comprising of bar snacks, sashimi, tacos, donburi and sharing plates. I started with bar bites like the Goma Wings (S$15) and Ika Geso Karaage (S$15), both of which are good bites to go along with some sake.

The Saketoshi Cocktail (S$39) is a mix of sea urchin (uni), ikura, truffle caviar, sweet prawn rice and tobiko. There is no alcohol of course, and the best part for me is definitely the uni.

The Japanese Oysters Karaage (S$24) is quite a unique take on oysters. Served with some mayonnaise sauce by the side, the oysters are fried to a nice golden-brown texture and is quite juicy as well.

The Uni Seaweed Tempura (S$24/2 pcs) is another luxurious snack to have. You get a nicely toasted seaweed topped with the decadent uni which I wished is bigger in portion!

If you love scallop, go for the Scallop Ikura (S$24) which comes with a plump scallop topped with overflowing ikura.

For donburi, you can’t go wrong with the Signature Beef Donburi (S$28) which comes with Premium Australian beef, onsen egg, truffle Mayo, truffle caviar, foie gras, leeks and scallions. I love the tender and thinly sliced beef, and the rice is good with the sauce.

The other donburi I had was the Aburi Engawa (S$28) which comes with torched flounder’s fin, onsen egg, tobiko, ponzu sauce and scallions. The engawa is delicious with a slightly fatty flavour from the fish oil. Unfortunately, the rice here is quite dry and it can definitely do with more sauce.

Rants Limited seating capacity and some of the indoor tables are quite low which makes it uncomfortable to dine in.

Will I Return Again? If you are after a causal Japanese Izakaya dining vibes in the Roberson Quay enclave, Saketoshi is a relatively standard Japanese option in UE Square Shopping Mall. Just note that the indoor dining space is quite limited.

This was an invited tasting, though all opinions expressed are our own.
