Food Review: 174 Bingo At Joo Chiat | Chic Industrial Wooden Bakery Cafe With Iranian Pistachio Tart & Cardamom Bun

The Place Another new exciting bakery cafe to the buzzing Joo Chiat, 174 Bingo is located right opposite 808 Eating House and it is already creating a small wave in the Joo Chiat community since it opened just a week ago. The entrance of 174 Bingo is decked in rustic wood framing with wooden bench and small tables outdoors if you want to soak in the Joo Chiat vibes. The outdoor space is also pet-friendly.

Moving in through the large wooden door panel, I was greeted by a rustic wooden interior with high ceiling. I realise we do not have many bakery cafes with a space like this in Singapore, and this reminds me of the ones in Copenhagen.

At the centrepiece of the indoor space is a wooden communal table where you can have random conversations with strangers (if you fancy), as well as some seats by the wall with exposed brick tables.

The Food The range of pastries and bread are on full display at the counter, where I spotted options like Plain Croissant, Cardamom Bun, Chicken Pie, Pistachio Tart, and more. There is no fixed menu for now as the team prefers to bake with the flow.

I had the Iranian Pistachio Tart (S$14) since I love pistachio! Instead of Italian pistachio, this uses Iranian pistachio praline along with pistachio frangipane, vanilla & pistachio cream. You get a solid tart base texture with a layered flavour of the pistachio from the praline to the cream. I personally still prefer the flavour of Sicilian pistachio.

For savoury bakes, I had the Pain Suisse (S$6.5) because I also love hazelnut! I love the crunchy bite of the pastry and the filling of the hazelnut praline and hazelnut frangipane which is not too sweet.

Coffee is also available to go with your bakes.

Rants Indoor seats are quite limited and the space fills up fast after the opening hour.

Will I Return Again? 174 Bingo is a great addition to Joo Chiat, and it also complements Petit Pain well since the latter has very limited dine-in seats and is mostly for takeaways. I like the industrial wooden space of 174 Bingo, and am keen to head back to try their other bakes like the chicken pie.
