Food Review: Jeonpo Meat Shop At McCallum Street | Korean BBQ In Telok Ayer

The Place Located along the intersection of McCallum Street and Telok Ayer Street is the newly opened Jeonpo Meat Shop, a Korean BBQ restaurant by the same team behind Seoul Noodle Shop and Tonshou. The name Jeonpo is inspired by  Jeonpo Cafe Street, a vibrant and popular destination located in the Seomyeon area of Busan, South Korea. Jeonpo Meat Shop also has presence in Hong Kong, and this is their first Singapore outlet.

The interior of Jeonpo Meat Shop Singapore is no-frills and casual, where the table arrangement is ideal for small groups.

The Food Ala carte and set menus are available, and the highlight is definitely K-BBQ. For lunch, bibimbap and various soup with rice are also available where the dishes are mostly priced below S$20.

I had some ala carte dishes for dinner where there is a good selection of various pork and beef cuts. It is also a plus where the staff helps to grill the meats at each table.

Before my main dishes were served, there is a series of banchan to start.

For pork, the Pork Collar (S$29/180g) is tender and goes well with some kimchi.

Alternatively, the Pork Jowl (S$31/150g) has a firmer texture and bite to the meat, and it goes well with the accompanying lettuce.

A more luxurious meat to try would be the King-Cut Beef Short Ribs (S$88 – 1 piece), a glorious and sizeable beef rib which was expertly grilled by the staff.

The beef itself is very flavourful and not too fatty, which is great if you like your beef this way.

The beef goes very well with the white kimchi where the slight sourness of the kimchi helps to balance the rich profile of the beef.

The remaining beef meat on the bones were then scraped and was used to cook the Fried Rice (S$14).

Other side dishes I had include the likes of the Steamed Eggs (S$10) and Kimchi Pancake (S$17), both of which I recommend trying too.

Rants Be prepared for the slightly smoky ambience after your meal.

Will I Return Again? If you are in for a good and fuss-free Korean BBQ meats, Jeonpo Meat Shop is one worth checking out. It is a pity that the restaurant does not have the best ventilation system, else this new spot will definitely turn up the Korean BBQ heat in this enclave with the likes of other restaurants nearby such as Gamtan and Sodeng.
