Food Review: Mansion 7 Cantonese Cuisine At Maxwell Road | Seafood, Dim Sum & Roast Meats In Tanjong Pagar

The Place Located in the heart of Tanjong Pagar along Maxwell Road, Mansion 7 Cantonese Cuisine is a relatively low-key Cantonese restaurant which opened late last year. It is a spacious setting where it used to be Huggs Coffee, and you get banquette and booth seating along with private dining room. The concept of Mansion 7 is a refined take on classic Cantonese cuisine through three distinct culinary pillars: dim sum, roast meats, and wok-cooked dishes. It is helmed by a team of seasoned chefs, helmed by Chef Ben Yapp.

The Food It is an extensive ala carte menu as well as set menus, and I must say the current set menu promotion is very value for money. I had the Abalone Set (S$98) which has a 1-for-1 currently, where you can even add on S$9.9 on top of the set to get Half Peking Duck.

It is a 6-course menu for the Abalone Set and here is what to expect:

Jipin (吉品) golden abalone with Moutai BBQ pork
A duo combination of crispy abalone in salted egg crust and that Moutai BBQ pork is delicious. It uses prized black pork and in-house concocted Mao Tai sauce, so you get that smokiness and caramelised sweetness for the char siew.

Thick collagen crispy fish soup
A hearty and luscious soup was up next which has generous bits of the fish.

Golden crispy prawn ball
Prawn ball sounds like a common dish but this version is one of the better ones I have had which also come with crispy cereals.

Wild mushrooms and foie gras with abalone sauce
Another duo combination – this time it features a huge slab of pan-seared foie gras along with juicy mushrooms.

Black truffle chicken and abalone fried rice
For carbs, I had the aromatic fried rice which has a tinge of truffle aroma.

Dessert
A simple mango pudding to conclude the set meal.

To add on, I also had half portion of the Peking Duck (S$80++ whole, S$42++ half) on top of the set, which is at a promotional price of just S$9.9. Expect a crisp duck skin to go with the yellow egg crepe.

Other dim sum items I had include the likes of the Mansion 7 Fresh Prawn Dumpling (S$9) and White Creamy Escargot Cheese Puff (S$13), both of which are delicious.

Rants The décor looks a tad dated despite being a fairly new restaurant. That said, I like the booth seating which makes the dining experience a more private one even if you are not seated in the private room.

Will I Return Again? The food at Mansion 7 is quite good, and I am surprised by how under the radar this restaurant is despite its very centralised location in the heart of Tanjong Pagar. The restaurant does good value set meals for now and there is no better time to give this a try.
