Hotel Review: COMO Metropolitan Singapore, Emerald Room | Wellness Hotel In The Heart Of Orchard Road

The Hotel Located in the heart of Orchard Road, I stayed at COMO Metropolitan Singapore recently, which is a Singapore-founded company. COMO Metropolitan Singapore is housed in COMO Orchard on Bideford Road (right beside Pullman Singapore Orchard and right opposite Paragon Shopping Centre), and it also the first time COMO Group’s signature brands  – COMO Hotels and Resorts, a multi-label fashion retail space curated by Club 21, urban wellness space by COMO Shambhala, contemporary international dining by COMO Cuisine, as well as Michelin-starred concept by COTE Korean Steakhouse and internationally-renown patisserie Cédric Grolet  – are housed under one building, COMO Orchard. In a sense, it is COMO Group’s hospitality, fashion, wellness, and cuisine all under one roof.

The lobby of the hotel is located on level six, and the whole design of the lobby and rooms takes on a minimalist approach with soothing neutral tones.

One key highlight of the lobby is the robotic coffee machine where guests can enjoy complimentary coffee by the robot.

The Room There are 156 rooms and suites in this property with only four room categories and suites – Cairnhill & Emerald Rooms, Metropolitan & COMO suites. Head over to Trip.com for special deals and promotions!

Each room features clean-lined, customised furnishings from Giorgetti, where I stayed at the Emerald Room (36m2) which comes with a city view.

While 36m2 does not sound big, the Emerald Room is well-appointed and designed in an efficient layout. Upon entering the room, there is the kitchenette with ample tabletop space.

One noteworthy mention is that there is also a discreet compartment where delivery items will be placed, such that guests need not need to open their door to take delivery. This is one of those thoughtful designs which take privacy into consideration.

The mini bar comes with soft drinks and snacks and are all complimentary and refillable. There is a complimentary dessert from Cédric Grolet as well.

The main aspect I like about the room is the neutral tones and how simple yet soothing it is to enter the room. The expansive windows bring in ample natural lighting in the day which perks me up.

There is a spacious work desk and couch along with ample charging points in the room.

The hardness of the bed’s mattress is firm, and I had a pretty good sleep.

For the bathroom, it comes with double vanity sinks and of course, COMO Shambhala bath amenities.

I love the earthy tone of the spacious standing shower zone which comes with a marble bench as well. Happy to report that the water is very strong as well.

The Facilities As a brand which is big on wellness, this aspect is covered very well in this building. On level four is COMO Shambhala where the fitness centre, spa and various workout rooms are located.

The Fitness Centre is easily one of the most inviting hotel gyms in Singapore for me, mainly because of how well-equipped it is, as well as the modern design of the well-lit space.

There are over 20 types of strength and functional equipment, as well as a wide range of cardiovascular machines and even a red light therapy room.

Another main highlight of the hotel is the rooftop infinity Pool on level 19, which offers skyline views of Orchard Road. We all know how precious land is in Orchard Road and this is easily one of the most beautiful rooftop pools in this precinct.

There is also a heated jacuzzi corner to relax, and while it is probably not obvious from the pictures, parts of the swimming pool floor is transparent glass where you can spot the road and vehicles beneath.

In terms of beds, there are sufficient beds for guests with a view of the pool, or in more private corners with a city skyline view instead.

If you are into retail therapy, COMO Orchard also features a curated retail experience by Club 21, offering designer womenswear, menswear, kids’ fashion, and fine jewellery from brands like Alaïa, Thom Browne, and Simone Rocha.

The Restaurants COMO Orchard is home to COTE Singapore, a Korean Steakhouse from Simon Kim, who has garnered Michelin stars for his restaurants in New York and Miami. The Butcher’s Feast Set Menu here is great value if you love Korean BBQ done in an elegant and smokeless setting.

Guests can also enjoy the full gamut of popular classics from COMO Cuisine, and our healthy COMO Shambhala Kitchen.

My stay comes with breakfast at COMO Cuisine, which spots an edgy, avant-garde interior.

The breakfast features a small buffet spread where you can grab fruits, healthy snacks like oats, banana cake, and more. It is not the typical hotel buffet spread with a wide range of local and international delights.

To complement the buffet is an ala carte menu where you can choose to have one serving of a main course which includes options like Prawn Laksa and Eggs done your way. I am just slightly disappointed that eggs are not offered in unlimited servings.

That said, one of the main highlights of the breakfast for me is that each guest is entitled to one piece of the highly acclaimed Cédric Grolet plain croissant which retails for S$11 for dine-in.

Located on level one is the renowned Cédric Grolet, a patisserie famous for its croissants for his first patisserie in Asia.

In addition, there is also Sky Bar, a rooftop bar which offers curated cocktails right beside the pool.

Rants The breakfast buffet spread is not that extensive as compared to other five-star hotels.

Overall Experience I had a great stay at COMO Metropolitan Singapore. It is a great location for tourists, and I love the overall aesthetics of the property from the lobby to the room. For fitness junkies, the pool and gym are one of the best ones in Orchard Road.
