Food Review: Royal China At Raffles Sentosa Singapore | Good Value Weekend Dim Sum Lunch Set

The Place Located at Raffles Sentosa Singapore, one dining concept which quietly opened this year is Royal China, a Cantonese restaurant in the all-villa property. Once you arrive at the hotel lobby, you can request a buggy to bring you to the restaurant.

The space of Royal China is not big, with limited tables in the main dining hall with floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook the surrounding greenery.

There are also two private dining rooms – Royal Room and Alstonia Room – for big groups.

The Food I visited Royal China on a weekend where I had their Weekend Dim Sum Set Lunch Menu (S$88++ per person, minimum 2 persons) which is quite a good value in my opinion as I share what I had:

Steamed Dim Sum Combination Basket
The first course is a quadruple of Steamed Shrimp Dumpling, Steamed Abalone Siew Mai, Steamed Sea Perch Dumpling and Steamed Wild Mushroom Crystal Dumpling. Each item is well-executed.

Baked and Fried Dim Sum Combination Platter
Next up is a series of another quadruple – Crispy Prawn Bean Curd Sheet Roll with Cereal, Deep-fried Sponge Mushroom Yam Dumpling, Oven-baked Mala Char Siew Puff and Pan-fried Black Pepper Wagyu Beef Pancake.

I particularly thought the Oven-baked Mala Char Siew Puff is quite unique and the ‘mala’ element is just right without being too overbearing on the palate. The Black Pepper Wagyu Beef Pancake reminds me of Taiwanese ‘cong you bing’, which is delicious.

Elegant Trio Combination Platter
The third part of the set menu features Honey-glazed Kurobuta Pork Char Siew, Roasted Crispy Five Spice Pork Belly and Marinated Jelly Fish Flower, Sesame Dressing. Not too surprising in terms of flavours, but all on point.

Braised White Pepper Crab Meat Soup, Fish Maw
A soup course is up next which is comforting and good with some vinegar.

Crispy Prawn, Yuzu Kosho Mayo, Mala Crisp
This course is quite good, and I love the texture of the prawn and the combination of yuzu kosho mayo and mala crisp!

Wok-fried Diced Chicken, Assorted Mushroom, Truffle Sauce
A decent chicken dish for protein.

Wok-fried Rice Noodles, Mushroom, Picked Radish
This is like char kway teow where the wok-hei game is quite strong.

Cream of Coconut Sago, Pumpkin, Taro, Purple Sweet Potato, Oven-baked Bird Nest Yuzu Egg Tart
Dessert is two parts. I am not a fan of either. Unfortunately, the crust of the egg tart was not buttery enough for me.

Rants The location of Royal China is definitely not the most convenient without a car.

Will I Return Again? If you are looking for a good value spot for weekend dim sum brunch in a nice setting, Royal China’s menu is priced very competitively even though it is located in one of the most upscale hotels in Singapore. The relatively small dining hall also makes the dining experience a little more private as compared to Chinese restaurants in other hotels.
