Food Review: 999.99 | Five Nines At Cuppage Plaza | No Borders Concept By Shunsui Group
The Place Back after 10 years from Shunsui Group’s very first venture along Keong Saik Road, 999.99 Five Nines returns with a new concept at Cuppage Plaza, one of the most interesting buildings in Orchard Road with a high density of Japanese restaurants. Located on level four just a few doors from Skewers, the interior of 999.99 Five Nines is casual with a few tables and counter seats. The interior takes on a black masculine vibe.

The Food The concept here is centred around western plates, sake, and a “no borders” philosophy without being tied to a single cuisine style.
Choose from ala carte options or there is a S$99++ dinner course (U.P. S$122++) per pax inclusive of free-flow alcohol which includes wine, sake and umeshu. You can customise some of the courses.

Here is what to expect from the S$99++ dinner course:
Choice of Appetiser
For a start, appetiser options include the likes of Seared Bluefin Otoro with Sauce Verte, Carrot Mousse with Crab, Ikura & Uni; and Oyster from Mie with Uni, Ikura & Caviar.
I love the Carrot Mousse with Crab, Ikura & Uni, so smooth in texture with a strong burst of flavours from the sea.

French Onion Soup en Croûte

Wagyu Steak Tacos with Escargot Butter
This is the course to get dirty. It is an overflowing filling of beef in the taco wrap, where cheese is also drizzled as the finishing touch.

Thankfully gloves are provided, else it can get quite messy. I find it too rich in flavour.

Crab Croquette with Bisque Sauce

Choice of Main
Options for mains include the likes of Whole Lobster Gratin and Rossini (Filet mignon with foie gras). The presentation of the lobster gratin is great for the gram, and you can expect a cheesy flavour with chunks of lobster meat.

In comparison, the Rossini is not as flavourful as compared to the lobster gratin.

Pasta
I was already quite full at this point and there is also a pasta course as the last savoury act. Choose from the likes of Carbonara Spaghetti and Prawn & Broccoli Peperoncino which are both very decent.

Dessert

Rants Simple, no-frills interior with not much of an ambience.
Will I Return Again? Relatively affordable dining option if you want an easy meal. Portions are big for the set dinner, and if you like a variety of dishes, this will likely be up your alley. Not to mention the free-flow drinks package which will delight some of you.
