The Place The revitalised Turf City in Bukit Timah has seen some exciting restaurants opening and Omakase Burger is one of the latest eatery to join the ranks of gourmet burgers such as &Made by Bruno Menard.
The concept of Omakase Burger is that the owner puts together the set of ingredients they feel is essential to serve the best burger for their customers. It operates like a fast food concept, where you place your orders at the counter and wait for your burgers to be ready. In terms of pricing, I feel that it is pretty reasonable for a chain which prides itself as serving gourmet burgers, with the cheapest Omakase burger set (includes a burger, choice of sides and drink) going for less than $20.
Reservations are not accepted at Omakase Burger but fret not as there are ample seats in 3 different sections of the restaurant. It is also recommended to commute to Turf City by car as it is quite a distance from the main road.
The Food The beef burgers are obviously the highlight at Omakase Burger so I did not hesitate to order the burger sets even though there are also Chicken sandwich or Chicken burger to choose from for non-beef eaters.
The first set we had was the Deluxe Cheeseburger ($15.90) with the addition of a large Truffle Fries ($7.90). The usual set cost an additional $5.90 to top up the burger meal, which includes a soft drink and normal fries. The choice of Truffle Fries requires an additional top up of $2 on top of the $5.90.
I must admit that it is really challenging to come across good Truffle Fries and it is disappointing that the ones here are far from good. The fries lack a strong truffle taste and differs only marginally fom the normal fries.
The saving grace of the meal is definitely the beef burger. It is commendable that there is much effort put into every ingredient of the burger. The burger buns are sourced from a local bakery and customised to ensure the most optimal beef-to-bun ratio. For its beef patty, I had it done medium and it is probably the most succulent patty I have ever tasted. The tender beef which is imported from the US is perfectly complimented by the bun and it is best to have it in one bite for the maximum lingering palate.
The second set we had was the Ultimate Cheeseburger ($17.50) set with the regular Sweet Potato Fries ($4.90). The burger is stuffed with bacon, grilled onions and mushrooms in addition to the beef patty.
The sweet potato fries is so much better than the truffle fries in terms of the strong flavour of the sweet potato as opposed to the latter.
Similar to the Duluxe Cheeseburger, the Ultimate Cheeseburger boast the same high quality beef patty which is fresh and blended every morning at Omakase Burger to ensure its maximum freshness.
Each set meal is completed with a choice of soft drinks.
Rants Other than the bad truffle fries, I guess the location of Omakase Burger is not the most convenient place to meet up with people regularly for a meal unless you live in the vicinity.
Will I return again? I really love the burgers here and I frankly think it is one of the best burgers around in Singapore. For this simple reason, there is every reason to return again for its gourmet burgers at affordable prices. I also embrace the fact that Omakase Burger is a place to go for an unpretentious gourmet burger dining experience. And if you guessed it correctly, I will not order the truffle fries ever again if I am back.
