Food Review: Senki Japanese Restaurant

The Place Long regarded as one of the most value for money Japanese buffet around, Senki along Killiney Road is no stranger to any Japanese food fanatic like theRantingPanda. I am thankful to have been able to secure two seats on Mother’s day, given my rather last minute reservations. This is definitely one of the restaurants to impress your date on quality food, and who cares even if your date happens to be your mum for the day.
IMG_9918The Food The buffet spread is similar to that of Ikoi, another of my favourite Japanese buffet restaurant. At $35++ for dinner buffet, it is definitely one of the most value for money treats around for decent quality Japanese food. Handrolls, sashimi, sushi, tempura, pork/chicken katsu, chawamushi, yakitori – just to name some of the buffet spread!
IMG_9920Despite some rather mixed reviews online for Senki, my visit was a pleasant one. As I was seated at the counter, I was first surprised by the Chef’s small gesture to offer a plate of complimentary Salmon Belly, which is not part of the buffet offer. I merely asked casually they served Salmon Belly and next moment it was served to us. This is excellent service which made my day.IMG_9931The Salmon Sashimi is very fresh and we could not resist having a few servings of it.
IMG_9925 The Salmon Skin Handroll, with its crispy seaweed is highly recommended as well.
IMG_9937More Salmon Handrolls for the salmon freak in me.
IMG_9949 A must order in every Japanese buffet is the assorted Tempura.
IMG_9933I only managed to try the Chicken Katsu, which is prefect for sharing for 2 people.
IMG_9940 The health conscious mum’s favourite – Mango and Peach Salad.
IMG_9948Grilled Salmon, served on a hot pot, is generous in its serving.
IMG_9951Rants The variety may not be the best, while the service is pretty inconsistent depending on which staff is serving you.

Will I return again? This is my second return to Senki and I am sure it will not be my last. It may not the best Japanese buffet around but definitely good enough to satisfy me on my hungry days.
