Food Review: Benjamin Browns Bistro & Bakery

The Place Tucked in a corner of Forum the Shopping Mall, this place was rather quiet on a Sunday night during our visit. But don’t let the lack of crowd be an indication of the quality of the food this nice cosy place serve. Attempt to book the place earlier in the afternoon was met with a highly energetic and friendly voice, giving its soon-to-be customers a very positive vibe of the bistro. Unfortunately, due to the small size of the restaurant and the mall’s escalator landing right at the restaurant’s entrance, the place may look alittle uninviting though.

The Food Simple delectable western fare at a slightly steep price – this quite well summed up the review of the food at Benjamin Browns. One of the key highlights at BB is the Fish & Chips ($19), which happened to be the feature on Mediacorp’s 8days story on the eatery too. However, unlike the ‘nicely done’ rating the entertainment magazine gave, tRP felt the mains fell short of our expectations. It wasn’t half bad though, but at best describe as average.

The Spaghetti Carbonara (S$17) was a hit! Matching the parma ham together with the heavenly cream, the one mains you should not miss at BB!

tRP loves mushroom. And this Sauteed Mushrooms ($8) at BB made a good side for any meals of the day.

Have always detest the on-slaught of restaurants working to include Truffle Fries on to their menu post the success of PS Cafe in Singapore. But BB surprised tRP with its Truffle Mayo Dip that comes with every order of BB Fries ($6). Reasonably priced and accompanied by great dips (both the Hollandaise and the Truffle Mayo), this is yet another quality sides on BB’s menu.

BB also serves a High Tea Set ($42) for 2 that includes a 3-tier cake stand that has 10 savoury and sweet bites. Might just be a good rest stop after a day of shopping along Orchard Road!

Rants The price. Yes, it may be located along Orchard Road, but having to spend close to $30 per pax for the simple fare at BB may just be alittle too steep for comfort.

Will I return again? Yes, due to the easy vibe of the eatery and the lack of crowd. And yes, to savour the High Tea set (though the price could turn diners away).
