Food Review: Prego | Italian cuisine at Fairmont Singapore

The Place My last visit to Prego was a few years back which did not leave me a deep impression. Long regarded as an authentic Italian restaurant, I revisited Prego recently and I feel that it was a much better dining experience. Reservations are highly recommended as it was so packed on weekends.

The restaurant is really spacious as there are a few segments to the dining area. There is a live station near the entrance where we can select and order the appetisers directly from the chef, which I thought is quite a good idea.P1030495
The Food We started with the famous Calamari Rings, which comes in a huge portion. It is slightly different to the more common crispy calamari rings I have had before as Prego’s version is grilled. Fortunately, the calamari is really fresh.

Before our mains were served, we had some complimentary Italian bread and crackers.

From the pizza selection, there is just so many different flavours to choose from that making a choice itself is challenging. I decided to go for the Funghi Misti ($32) which has truffle oil. It turns out to be surprisingly good; the texture of the crust is just right as it is not too thick or thin, while the tinge of truffle oil with the tasty mushrooms suited my palate very well.

For pasta, we tried the Penne Tartufate ($32) which is has wild mushrooms and truffle cream sauce, probably one of my two favourite elements in any dish. It truly live up to my expectations thankfully. The truffle cream sauce has a strong truffle element, while the mushrooms is just so yummy.

For those who are curious to have a peek at the menu, here it is:

I would say that the gelato is better than the average café out there but definitely did not make me crave for more. Among the three flavours, the best has got to be the pistachio.

Rants
It was a busy day for Prego and we witnessed and heard plates being broken a few times in a night by the staff. The initial black out of the restaurant for about 15 minutes did not help as well.

Will I return again? The food is above average, and with the FAR card, it is an even sweeter deal as two diners enjoy 50% off. There is always another reason to be back.
