Food Review: Carpenter and Cook

The Place I have heard a lot about Carpenter and Cook in Lorong Kilat which sounds totally ulu (obscure in Singlish) to me, only to realise that it is very near to Upper Bukit Timah food centre. The café exudes a vintage charm from the looks of its interior furniture, utensils and even the lightings. I am surprised by the almost fully packed crowd given the location.IMG_9817

The Food The pastries and cakes are the highlights here, which are all baked and made by the chefs here instead of being sourced from elsewhere like some cafes. I was not particularly hungry, so I thought that having the Quiche ($7) is perfect, which looks very tantalising. It contains mushroom and ham, which is one of my favourite combinations. I especially like the crispy crust at the edge, while the taste is passable as well. One rant from me is that it is not served hot, which I think the staff should have the initiative to ask the customer if they would prefer it to be warmed.IMG_9807A visit to a café is never complete without trying its coffee. I had the Café Latte ($5) which complimented the quiche quite well. While the taste of the coffee is smooth, it is certainly not as aromatic as other cafes which serves more specialised coffee beans. As someone who enjoys having slightly stronger coffee, I am not particularly fond of the coffee here.IMG_9810The vintage table top and utensils definitely defines the ambience of Carpenter and Cook.IMG_9808Rants The coffee beans can definitely be much improved on.

Will I return again? The vintage theme stands out, but there is no other reason to return for me.
