Food Review: The Lokal | Aussie inspired modern cafe

The Place By the same group of people behind Sarnies in Telok Ayer Street, The Lokal is setting a new standard for cafes in Singapore. IMG_4101The Lokal is very well furbished, from the tiles to the comfy sofa chairs to the design and layout of the place. I love the fact that there are two main dining sections which creates a more layered feel to the whole place, and especially interesting is the counter seat where you can witness all the live action in the kitchen.  IMG_4100The Food There are quite a lot of choices when it comes to brunch such as the Roast Chicken Panini ($15) and the Toastie of the day. If you feeling indecisive like us, the perfect choice is the Pimp my breakfast where you simply select from the list of breakfast sides. Sounds like a perfect idea.IMG_4047

What is brunch without some gourmet coffee? IMG_4044The Iced Mocha ($6) was very good, just the perfect dose of mocha and caffeine which we often find it difficult to find in most cafes.IMG_4062Made from Sarnies coffee beans, our Flat White ($5.50) is rich and totally gave us the strong punch much needed on a lethargic afternoon.IMG_4071Up next is our version of Pimp my breakfast! We chose the Grilled Sausage ($6), Scrambled Eggs ($5) and the Dry-cured Bacon ($6). I especially love the crispy dry-cured bacon which was prepared from scratch by the restaurant.IMG_4090We were totally in a pimping mode, so here is the second set: Scrambled eggs ($5), wilted Spinach ($4) and Smoked Salmon ($6). IMG_4074IMG_4078Rants Despite the hip vibe and good coffee, The Lokal feels too busy for our liking. Sometimes all we want is to chill, have a nice coffee and feel relaxed on weekends. We can only imagine this place getting more packed with time.

Will I return again? I will still drop by The Lokal for some good coffee if I am in the vicinity, but to come down specially for a weekend brunch, I guess there are other options.

  1. I love the food, coffee and ambience in The Lokal, but during the weekends this cafe is very crowded.
