The Place There are not many specialty coffee joints which carry Thai roasted coffee in Singapore. It seems to me the general conception of good coffee beans in the region are from Australia, Indonesia or Vietnam. Doi Chaang Coffee is one which specialises in Thai roasted coffee beans, with its first Singapore outpost in Rochester Mall (the second outlet is slated to open in the new 321 Clementi Mall soon), sandwiched between Rochester Park and the Star Vista. I previously didn’t know that the Doi Chaang brand is huge regionally and globally, with presence from Malaysia to Japan to Canada, just to name a few. The space of the joint at Rochester Mall is not huge, but it has a cosy and quiet ambience which makes me feel like I can enjoy my coffee in peace here.

The Food The coffee beans which Doi Chaang uses is supplied from a village in Chiang Rai, Thailand and I understand from the owner that the brand practises Fair Trade to ensure that the farmers interests are not marginalised. Other than the coffee which carries the Doi Chaang brand, the Singapore joint also brings in Mille Crepe cakes of various flavours from an external supplier, as well as some sandwiches and wraps prepared in-house.
I tried the signature Iced Doi Chaang ($6.50), which has a rather strong taste by Iced Coffee standards. The smooth medium body coffee is easy to stomach and goes well with the mille crepes I had.
If you fancy something hot, try the Flat White ($5.50).
While mille crepe is not the forte here, it is still a treat to have them with the coffee, especially with attractive flavours such as the Matcha & Azuki and Chocolate Praline Mille Crepes ($6.90 per slice) I tried. Another plus point is that it is not too sweet for me.
Rants The limited choice of food at Doi Chaang Coffee is currently something which the owner is planning to enhance. It will definitely be welcoming with more food choices here. Afterall, we all love having good coffee with good food, don’t we?

Will I Return Again? I have always been a fan of Thai Iced Coffee, and glad to say Doi Chaang Coffee fits the bill. That aside, I am an advocate of the fair trade business model of Doi Chaang, which makes drinking their coffee an even more pleasant experience.
