What’s new: The Pearl of Orient Penang Special is happening at 10 at Claymore, Pan Pacific Orchard this April and May, specially put together by Executive Chef Andy Oh to showcase the highlights of Penang street food, also Chef Andy’s hometown.

The highlights: We can’t miss out trying the Penang Char Kway Teow, “Live” King Prawn Noodle, Assam Laksa with Barramundi Fillet, XO Seafood Popiah, Bak Kut Teh with Kurobuta Belly Ribs, Penang Rojak, Pork Trotters in Black Vinegar, Teochew Chendol and Durian Pancake. My top picks are the Penang Char Kway Teow, which was full of wok hei flavour, and the ultra rich and luxurious Bak Kut Teh with Kurobuta Belly Ribs.

Sounds like a lot to stomach we know, but this is on top of the regular buffet spread where you will get your usual seafood and sashimi fix. Save some space  for the addictive chicken wings and beyond tender beef cheeks. Desserts wise, there was a slight commotion at my table by the sight of the Durian pancake. If durian is not your thing, there are other flavours like Nutella to choose from, all prepared à la minute.

Interestingly for beverages, there are some Penang-inspired drinks to quench your thirst like the Milo XL, Bandung and Calamansi Juice at $6 nett.

Only for weekday lunch, there is a special three-course Authentic Flavours of Penang Set Lunch at the lobby lounge from 12pm to 3pm, at $16 nett. Something to consider if you work in the vicinity? Sounds perfect for team lunch.

When to go: The Pearl of Orient Penang Special will be running from 1 April to 31 May 2016 at 10 at Claymore, Pan Pacific Orchard. Lunch buffet is priced at $42 (Monday to Friday) or $48 (Saturday and Sunday); Dinner buffet is priced at $68 (Monday to Sunday).
