Food Review: Mork Chocolate Brew House Melbourne | One of the best hot chocolate cafe experiences in Australia

The Place Mörk Chocolate Brew House Melbourne is a chocolate paradise for all chocolate lovers, easily one of my best hot chocolate café experience. Located in North Melbourne, the brand has been a cocoa supplier to cafes and restaurants and only opened its first and only physical concept about a year ago. I fell in love with the clean and minimalist space of Mörk Chocolate Melbourne, where all its chocolate products and open concept kitchen take centrestage the moment I stepped into the café. The seating capacity is less than twenty, but I can’t really complain about watching the chocolate “chemist” or baristas at work as it is such a joy to watch them concoct the various chocolate items on the menu. Interestingly, “Mörk” is Swedish for dark, so expect lots of dark chocolate on its menu.

The Food Mörk Chocolate uses single origin cocoa powder sourced from Peru. Other than the must try signature chocolate drink which comes in various concotions like salted hazelnut caramel and cinnamon, there are also sweet tarts to go along if you are game for a load of chocolate. We tried the salted caramel chocolate Tart (AUD 4), which was unsurprisingly rich. The house hot chocolate caters to all spectrum of chocolate fans – 50%, 70% and 75% cocao options available.

If you can only try one item on the menu, my top pick is the Campfire Chocolate (AUD 8). This was such a smoking and sensory experience, as it comes served with beechwood smoke and toasted marshmallow. Simply pour the hot chocolate over the glass and you will witness some smoky chemical reaction. The fun factor is definitely 100%.

We also gave the Mörkshakes a try by having the Malted Chocolate (AUD7) shake, just to get a contrast between the hot and cold chocolate flavours. I personally prefer having the hot chocolate as I find it easier to stomach, though the Rantee preferred the Mörkshake.

Rants Be prepared to wait as the space is not big.

Will I Return Again? If you fancy a chocolate café experience in Melbourne, Mörk Chocolate is my top recommendation. The chocolate taste is rich, and I like how focused its concept is – serving chocolate in its pure forms. Chocolate lovers, you won’t regret giving this a try.
