What’s buzzing? From 15 July to 15 October 2016, Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant at PARKROYAL on Beach Road, has launched the ‘100 Sichuan Delights, 1 Gastronomic Feast’, presenting 100 authentic Sichuan dishes in an à la carte buffet. Chengdu-born Executive Sichuan Chef Zeng Feng is trying to showcase 100 flavours in 100 dishes.

What are the highlights? We tried the buffet and the one common misconception is that Sichuan cuisine is more than just its “ma la” (spicy and numbing) flavour. Other than the familiar “ma la” (麻辣味), onion oil (葱油味) or garlic and chilli (鱼香味) flavours, you can look forward to the lesser known Sichuan flavours such as Sweet Sauce Flavour (甜香味), Sweet and Sour Flavour (糖醋味) and  Sichuan Pepper and Minced Spring Onion Flavour (椒麻味).

We confess that we only tried 50-60% of the dishes on this buffet, despite the small serving per portion of each dish. For first timers, our recommendation is to order on to two highlights under each flavour for a more complete experience of the Sichuan flavours.

Don’t miss out on the  ‘Chilled Chicken in Spicy Bean Paste’ (口水鸡) and Sliced Fish in Spicy Chilli Sauce (沸腾鱼) from the “ma la” section, Chilled Sliced Radish wrapped with Sweet and Sour Sauce (珊瑚雪卷) from the Sweet Sauce Flavour (甜香味), Fresh Scallops (椒麻带子) from the Sichuan Pepper and Minced Spring Onion Flavour (椒麻味), Steamed Pork Belly with Glutinous Rice and Red Bean Paste in Sweet Sauce (甜烧白) from the Sweet Sauce Flavour (甜香味).
