Food Review: Window on the Park at Holiday Inn Singapore Orchard City Centre | 1-for-1 Promotion for Boston Lobster and Southeast Asian Cuisine-themed Buffet

The Place Been here some decades back, and surprised to find the all-day dining concept at Holiday Inn Singapore Orchard City Centre, Window on the Park, still going strong as it was relatively packed on a Saturday evening. The overall decor of the restaurant, and the hotel, remains very much what I recalled it was since; although minor refurbishments provided some modern comfort to the space.

In reference to the Park, this refers to the Istana grounds to which the restaurant looks into – if you look across the Central Expressway (CTE) running just in front of the restaurant. At the far right of the restaurant is the buffet counters which is fortunately brightly lit while the rest of the restaurant retains the warm lighting.

The Food We were keen to visit this due to their ongoing Boston Lobster promotion during the weekends (Friday to Sunday dinner, S$96 per pax), and there is a perpetual 1-for-1 promotion currently. Weekday dinner is at S$80 per pax, with Children (below 12 years old) at S$22. With such attractive 1-for-1 promotion, we were curious to find out more.

The normal selections of the buffet focus on Southeast Asian Gastronomic Extravaganza, and diners get to enjoy local delights including the familiar Sweet and Sour Pork, to live stations where you can DIY your own Laksa and Rojak.

Of course, you have a small spread of Japanese Sashimi and other seafood as well, including fresh prawns, chilli crab and steamed bamboo clams.

And if you see a snaking queue of diners at the buffet area, that will be the queue awaiting rather impatiently for their Pan Seared Boston Lobster. Despite it being a highlight of the buffet, the item gets topped up infrequently and seemingly reluctantly by the kitchen chefs.

On to the dessert spread, there is a decent selection from traditional pastries to enticing options such as Durian Pengat.

Rants For a S$96 a pax buffet, the spread was definitely underwhelming. And it doesn’t help it that you have to be lining up in standby mode and end off snatching (literally) the buffet’s highlight Boston Lobster with your fellow diners.

Will I Return Again? The 1-for-1 promotion seems to be a perpetual here, so perhaps we should just start with pricing it at S$48 a pax? And I am not looking forward to snatching my dinner with my fellow diners.

This was an invited tasting, though all opinions expressed are our own.
