Food Review: Royal Albatross at Resorts World Sentosa | Sunset Sail through the Southern Islands of Singapore
The Place Docked at Resorts World Sentosa, the Royal Albatross has been sailing in Singapore waters after a 15,000 km journey from its original home, Chicago. In 2015, they welcomed their first diners onboard the Royal Albatross for Sunset Sail City Lights amidst the ever changing skyline of downtown Singapore.
The sail brings you from the northern coast of Sentosa island to the southern shores of the island via the Dragon’s Teeth Gate, and further east to give guests onboard a view of Marina Bay before circling back to Sentosa Island through the Southern Islands of Singapore.
The Food To enjoy the sail, guests can choose between the Platinum package (S$195, Child S$145) or the Gold package (S$165, Child S$125). Both includes the 2.5 hours of cruise, with the Platinum package giving guests a designated seating at the upper foredeck – the best spot to enjoy sights from the ship.
If you go for the Gold package, whilst you may not get the plated dinner service to your designated table, you will be able to enjoy a buffet dining experience. Either way, you will be able to enjoy a welcome cocktail drink, and live entertainment during the sail.
During our night of sailing, we were treated to Prawn Salad as starters. For mains, we were savoured a platter of barbecue meats and grilled seafood. The food may not be the best, but the ambience was spot on. Dining amidst the sights of Sentosa Cove residential, and the Marina Bay skyline at the far corner, the rather dry meats served is definitely not going to damper the mood.
Ending off the three-course dinner, the desserts are fashionably served in a platter as well, with a myriad of sweet pastries and ice creams neatly arranged to end off the night.
Before heading back to dock, you will enjoy some lights display and fireworks as part of the Wings of Time attraction at Sentosa.
Rants The same food is enjoyed by both the Platinum and Gold guests, with the only difference being a plated service or a buffet line.
Will I Return Again? The experience is very unique, and perhaps the only one of its kind in Singapore. While it does not come cheap, and you may not enjoy Michelin-star-worthy food despite the price tag, the short voyage at the south of Singapore is really where you get the bang for your buck. For your next special occasion, this is worth surprising your loved ones on.
This was an invited tasting, though all opinions expressed are our own.
