Food Review: Xing Fu Tang (幸福堂) at Century Square, Tampines | Taiwan No. 1 Brown Sugar Boba Milk brand lands in Singapore

The Place Opening in Tampines’ Century Square on 28 June 2019, Taiwan No. 1 Brown Sugar Boba Milk brand Xing Fu Tang has finally landed on the shores in Singapore. The popular Taiwanese bubble tea brand had a pop-up stall in Ngee Ann City recently, and the Century Square outlet marks the brand’s first permanent space in Singapore. A quick introduction about Xing Fu Tang – it is a Taiwan originated brand that started back in January 2018, becoming an instant hit with the locals and Taiwan now has over 60 stores, and another 30 stores worldwide.

The Food There is a wide variety of Boba drinks at Xing Fu Tang, with most of the ingredients such as the brown sugar and tapioca starch all directly imported from Taiwan. It uses 100% natural brown sugar with no additives, essences or preservatives, where the bobas are hand-made freshly in-house everyday. The brown sugar are stir-fried in a traditional way with the bobas, which lends it a nice fragrance.

I managed to try a few drinks, with the signature being the Brown Sugar Boba Milk (S$5.30).

From the open kitchen, you can catch a glimpse of the crew kneading the dough from scratch, before it materialises into bobas, then stir-fried with the brown sugar, and finally being prepared into a handful of happiness.

There is no option to customise the sugar level of the Brown Sugar Boba Milk, though I find that it is not too sweet. There is a good balance of the fresh milk, brown sugar and the nice chewy texture of the bobas.

The other signatue drink here is the Damascus Rose Tea with Lemons (S$4.90). Each cup of tea flavoured drink here is freshly brewed in a nice teapot before it is served. The rose tea flavour is quite light, which makes this drink a rather refreshing one.

For green tea lovers, go for the Matcha Boba Milk (S$5.90), which has a relatively intense matcha flavour.

The cutest presentation has to be the Mango Smoothie and Rabbit Panna Cotta (S$6.90), where a small slice of the rabbit panna cotta is nicely perched atop the smoothie. The smoothie itself has a rich mango taste, and the right way to enjoy this drink is to pierce through the transparent cover for the rabbit panna cotta to slide through it. Mix it well!

Other than drinks, there is also the Fresh Milk with Brown Sugar Boba (S$4.50) soft serve, one of the instagrammable options. I like the thick texture of the ice cream here, which brings out the fresh milk flavour well.

Rants Be prepared to brave the queue.

Will I Return Again? The quality of drinks are consistent at Xing Fu Tang, with the signature Brown Sugar Boba Milk a personal favourite of the Pandas – made perfect with its balanced mix, and most importantly, it did not come across as overly sweet.

This was an invited tasting.

  1. Last time I bought it was awesome but today
it was not good … bubble was not soft as last time, less
bubble less cream on the top. The stuff was different
who was scooping bubble. I was really disappointed.
