Food Review: Ding Ji Mushroom Minced Meat Noodle at Bishan (鼎记香菇肉脞麵) | A Delicious Alternative to Serangoon’s Seng Kee Mushroom Minced Meat Noodle

The Place My love for soupy Bak Chor Mee brought me to Ding Ji Mushroom Minced Meat Noodle. Located in a coffeeshop along Bishan Street 22, Ding Ji has various outlets across town and is managed by Fei Siong Group. However, I read some good reviews about the Bishan outlet which serves Fish Maw Soup with Noodles, similar to the famous Seng Kee Mushroom Minced Meat Noodle in Serangoon Gardens.

The Food Prices start from S$5 for the Ding Ji Signature Noodle, but I zoomed straight to order the Fish Maw Soup with Noodles (S$8). The fish maw soup is served in a huge bowl and consists of other ingredients like egg and minced pork. I was thinking between Mee Kia or Mee Pok, which the staff recommended Mee Kia. The dry Mee Kia comes in a separate bowl, with a pretty springy texture. The noodles itself is quite flavourful as it is tossed in black sauce.

Moving on to the highlight which is the fish maw soup, my first thought is that the broth is not as flavourful as Seng Kee’s. That said, the ingredients are quite generous with a good portion of both the fish maw, minced pork and pork balls.

Rants The staff were going through an IT issue with their POS during our visit, and had to reject customers.

Will I Return Again? While some online reviews mentioned that the standards at Ding Ji is no longer as good as when it just opened, it is definitely a decent alternative to Seng Kee for me. The latter has especially erratic opening hours at times, which I have experienced a few times while visiting the Serangoon Gardens Market & Food Centre. Whereas Ding Ji opens 24 hours, which is ideal to satisfy my craving at any time of the day.
