Food Review: Mother Dough Bakery at North Bridge Road, Kampong Glam | One of the Best Almond Croissant in Singapore
The Place It took me one year to get to Mother Dough Bakery located along North Bridge Road. Never too late, except that this indie hole-in-the-wall style bakery is very popular. Seats are limited, though the cramped space adds to the indie charm. Founded one year ago by head baker Naadhira Ismail who honed her baking skills and bread making in New York City, Mother Dough offers a good variety of sourdough bread, croissants, pastries and cakes.
The Food I told myself that I must try the croissant, which was my aim even before I set foot into the space as I had read some raved reviews about it. Seemingly clueless as to which flavour to go for, one of the staff highly recommended the Almond Croissant (S$4.90), which is the signature bake here. I ended up getting both the Almond Croissant and the Sourdough Plain Croissant (S$4).
The almond croissant surprised me. It is generously topped with almond flakes, and filled with marzipan. The flaky texture of the croissant is on point, and the marzipan filling is really good without being too sweet. This almond croissant really grows on me.
The Plain Croissant itself is commendable, though it pales in comparison after I had the almond croissant. That said, the texture of crust is on point and it isn’t overly buttery or anything. Well-balanced, and best to go along with a black coffee, which I did.
Rants The cramped space and low tables makes Mother Dough a less than ideal space to chill.
Will I Return Again? There is so much to return for, like the lemon pound cake, and definitely another round of the almond croissant.
