Food Review: Double Up Coffee At Jalan Klapa | Industrial Minimalist Cafe Near Bugis With Beans From Bearded Bella
The Place Located near Bugis MRT station along Jalan Klapa, Double Up Coffee is a few weeks old cafe with an industrial minimalist interior. I was first drawn by the double thumbs up sticker at its entrance, one which instantly reminded me of Tokyu Hands. The small and cosy outdoor space is sheltered, and it adds fun elements such as the old-school chairs and skateboard, which doubles up (pun intended) as a coffee table. The interior is mainly decked in raw grey tones, with barely any tables but long built-in benches for a casual coffee catch up.
The Food Mainly coffee, where there is no proper food menu except for some cakes. The coffee uses coffee blends from Bearded Bella in Craig Road, and uses a different name in its menu. Spro means espresso, and I had both the Spro With Water (S$4.50) aka Long Black, and the Spro Sith Milk (S$5) aka Flat White. Why so complicated? Regardless, expect a strong coffee note from the blend here. I wouldn’t say it is exactly my favourite type of coffee note as I find it too sharp, but nonetheless, some of you may enjoy it more.
I also had a slice of the Lemon Loaf (S$4.50) with bits of blueberry.
Rants The cafe was almost packed on the Saturday afternoon I visited and it can get quite noisy from the compact space. Alternatively, a relatively more peaceful corner is the cosy outdoor space which is clearly not air-conditioned.
Will I Return Again? This is good coffee spot if you are in the Kampong Glam vicinity. It can be quite packed on weekend, otherwise the space is quite cosy to enjoy your coffee and hopefully some me-time.
