Food Review: Ajumma’s At Funan Mall | Affordable And Delicious Korean Food In City Hall

The Place Located at the basement of Funan Mall, Ajumma’s is a very popular casual Korean restaurant at wallet friendly prices. The space of Ajumma’s is located close to Afuri ramen, and is small and open concept, with a perpetual queue. Waiting time can be up to 45 minutes to an hour typically.

The Food
The menu is quite concise for a Korean restaurant, with various types of bulgogi, stews and street food. Most of the dishes are priced below S$15, which makes it one of the most affordable Korean restaurants around.

I started with the Beef Bulgogi (S$10.50), where the thinly sliced beef is relatively tender and flavourful.

I love Korean stews, and hence I ordered the Kimchi Pork Belly Stew (S$14.90). There is also tofu and mushrooms in this pork broth, though the tofu is not that impressive. That said, it is a comforting dish which goes well with rice and the other dishes I had.

The Kimchi Pancake (S$9.90)is a must order and for this price, the portion is generous. I like the crispy edges of the pancake, though it is very greasy as well.

The last dish and my favourite is the Fluffy Steamed Eggs (S$5.90), topped with roasted sesame oil. Served in a hot stone pot, this is really good value and it makes it wonder that other Korean restaurants are over-charging for this dish. Go for it.

Rants The open concept space is not something I like for a dining experience. That said, service is quick and it almost feels like a fast food concept. Almost.

Will I Return Again? Good quality causal Korean dining in Funan. Ajumma’s is worth trying, if you have patience to queue.
