The Place One great addition to Dempsey Hill this year is SPRMRKT at Dempsey Hill, which opened right before circuit breaker and I only managed to check out the new restaurant and cafe space recently. Located in the heart of Dempsey Hill, SPRMRKT occupies a corner spacious unit of what was previously A British army barrack. I like the high ceiling and well-designed dining zones in the space, and I managed to get a table perfect for couples right beside the window.

The Food It’s an all-day dining affair here, from breakfast all the way to brunch and dinner. The menu focuses on modern European cuisine with South Asian influences, and I was keen to check out its solid brunch menu initially, though I ended up for dinner instead.

The dinner menu is pretty casual, with various fish, meat, pasta and burger options. I had the Blackened Fish & Chips (S$28) as I haven’t come across such a version before. It turned out to be quite good, as the texture is very crispy while the texture fish meat within doesn’t fall apart easily. The colour stems from the squid ink batter used to coat the seabass, and it is served along with kimchi slaw and fried.

The other mains I tried was the Mushrooms (S$25) pasta. This is a relatively simple pasta dish with not much surprise, but I took comfort in having it. The al dente spaghetti is tossed with mixed mushrooms, kombu, cream, kale and baby heirloom tomatoes.

Rants There is nothing much not to love about this space.

Will I Return Again? I love the ambience of SPRMRKT at Dempsey Hill. Spacious with high ceiling and nice natural light in the day, this is one chic spot to laze the afternoon or evening away. Brunch is next on my agenda.
