Hotel Review: W Singapore – Sentosa Cove Staycation | Spectacular Room With Marina View & Gorgeous Outdoor Pool In Singapore

The Hotel Located in the exclusive Sentosa Cove, I have been to W Singapore – Sentosa Cove a couple of times previously but only managed to clock a stay recently. If you are familiar with Sentosa Cove, the Marriott Bonvoy property is situated right beside Quayside Isle, a lifestyle and dining destination overlooking the marina.

If there is a welcoming sign, you will not miss the unique W scent the moment you step into the property. My check-in process was fuss-free, with clear explanation from the staff in terms of the booking of the facilities and breakfast. Do note that you can only reserve the breakfast slots and usage of facilities like the gym and pool upon check-in.

I really like the lobby of W Singapore as you get a very good view of the pool and surrounding landscape, even if you do not manage to book a pool view room.

The Room W rooms and suites go by fun names like Wonderful, Spectacular, Fabulous, Wow and so on, you get the idea, nothing sounds really bad.

I checked into the Spectacular king room with a Marina view and balcony. There are only 15 Spectacular king rooms, the other 15 being Spectacular double rooms.

The first thing I noticed are the welcome balloons on the bed and welcome snack. At 431-452 Square Feet / 40-42 Square Meters, this room category size is very decent in Singapore’s context.

The main highlight of the Spectacular room is the spectacular view, and I mean the serene marina views of Sentosa Cove.

The balcony is a very good size to chill with a drink on hand, and I managed to sit here in the morning with my coffee. Life is complete.

In terms of the room amenities, I had a very good night sleep and a geeky fact is that the bedsheet uses 350-thread count linen. There is a 40-inch Samsung LED HDTV with DVD player, an iPod docking station, Bose Sound system, Mood lighting and complimentary in-room coffee and tea, just to name a few.

The bathroom is very spacious, complete with an enticing tub and you can choose to open it up to the room if privacy is not an issue.

Otherwise, there is separate toilet and a spacious standing rainforest shower area.

The Facilities My favourite and quite possibly the main highlight at W Singapore is the Wet Pool or outdoor pool, one of Singapore’s largest resort outdoor pool areas. You need to book a slot in the day, available for one 2-hour slot per room per day. That said, the Wet Pool is 24 hours and there is no need to make a booking at night should you fancy a night swim.

I like that pool is irregularly shaped as it spreads people out better.

There are jacuzzi points in the pool, and don’t miss the slide which is really fun so long as you lie flat.

There is also a pool menu where you can grab some bites or boozy drinks.

I also visited the 24/7 Fitness Centre which is one of the best hotel gyms in my opinion. It is huge and the equipment is well-maintained and varied, be it cardio or weights training.

The Away Spa is located right opposite the Fitness Centre and guests are eligible to use the wet facilities like the indoor jacuzzi, steam room and sauna, even if you didn’t book a spa treatment. Just remember to book the hourly slot at the Away Spa in advance.

The Restaurants Skirt is a restaurant which specialises in grilled meats and seafood. The wood-burning grill, framed by wood panels and leather trimmings and studded with real onyx and marble, anchors the grill restaurant.

I managed to have dinner during my stay and I had the Grazing Menu (S$196++ for 2 persons), which comes with Parilla Grilled Padron Peppers, House-made Hummus, Grilled Crawfish, Flat Iron Fillet with Confit Garlic Purée served with Char-Grilled Broccolini, and dessert.

There is also a very interesting Eco-Tipsy initiative at Skirt where you can go green and sip sustainably with their selection of barrel-aged cocktails, where I understood from the staff that every of this cocktail order goes towards planting of a tree. I had the Negroni, and a Red Wine to go with the meats.

The Kitchen Table is the dining spot where breakfast is held. I enjoyed the breakfast and service here, which come across as personable and sincere.

In terms of the breakfast spread, it is a good mix of western and local dishes and some of those I had include the Poke Bowl, Avo Toast with Poached Eggs, Scrambled Eggs, Nasi Lemak, Laksa, Waffles and I wish I had space for the French Toast.

Woobar is the lounge bar at the lobby and it has a Wicked Hours pre-dinner booze from as early as 4pm all the way till 8pm where you can have drinks from S$10.

I managed to try a few interesting cocktails as part of the Marriot Bonvoy x Fossa Chocolate collaboration, and it is interesting to see how the bar blends the chocolate element into the cocktails.

In the day, Woobar also serves the W T Time daily from 3pm to 5pm, priced at S$70++ per set for two persons on weekdays and S$80++ on weekends.

Served in a standing decorative silver birdcage, you get a mix of savoury and sweet treats, along with scones, a choice of tea and unlimited coffee. I like the spinach quiche and pastrami reuben.

If you are up for a relaxing afternoon tea session, Woobar is worth trying, and I especially like the view of the landscape and pool.

There is also the Wet Bar, where you enjoy sips and bites at the outdoor pool. This is currently closed at the moment.

Rants It would be ideal if there are charging points beside the bed, where there are only USB ports.

Overall Experience I enjoyed my W staycation tremendously and it is one of the rare properties in Singapore which makes me feel like I am out of town. The service of the staff is warm, and the pool is truly one of the best ones in Singapore too. Can’t wait to return for the next W-onderful stay!
