Food Review: Want Food Taiwanese Delights At Cross Street | Delicious And Affordable Lu Rou Fan And Mee Sua In Singapore

The Place I miss Taiwan and was excited to check out a new casual Taiwanese restaurant along Cross Street, Want Food Taiwanese Delights (恋恋湾味). The restaurant is a cosy size and has less than twenty seats, and it is easy to spot from the main road as it faces South Bridge Road right beside WeWork. The interior of Want Food Taiwanese Delights exudes a retro vibe, with wooden tables and high stool seats beside the window. You know a place is authentically Taiwanese when the owner is from Taiwan, and I was greeted with the familiar Taiwanese accent.

The Food The menu is very concise here, though it has all the dishes I wanted to try. Most of the dishes are under S$10, which makes it a very wallet-friendly spot for a meal in the CBD.

I started with the Taiwanese Salty Crispy Chicken (S$8.90), a generous portion of the ‘Yan Su Ji’. What I like about this dish is that it doesn’t taste too greasy, and the fried chicken meat is extremely tender. It is also very fragrant from the five-spice powder, which is not too overpowering too. Very addictive, and I almost finished it alone.

The Signature Oyster Intestine Mee Sua (S$9.90/regular) is another must have. I am not a fan of oyster so I only had the intestine for my Mee Sua. The Mee Sua broth is delicious, flavourful and not too starchy. You can choose to add on more vinegar if you fancy, while the pork intestine is very clean and delicious as well.

I also had the Taiwanese Braised Minced Pork Rice (S$7.90), also known as ‘Lu Rou Fan’. The staff told us the braised sauce and rice are refillable, which was a pleasant surprise. I love the flavourful braised sauce, and the minced pork is a good mix of lean and fatty meat. Overall, it is one of the better ‘Lu Rou Fan’ I have had in Singapore.

Rants Seats are quite limited and the drinks options are limited to mainly bottled tea and soy milk, all Taiwanese imports though.

Will I Return Again? Overall, the dishes I had at Want Food Taiwanese Delights are good and I do want to head back, even for the same dishes. Prices are affordable and portions are relatively generous, this is a must check out if you love a causal Taiwanese meal.
