The Place I have been exploring East Coast quite a fair bit after moving here recently and I was surprised to find a hidden restaurant and bar within The Flow at East Coast. In Bad Company Restaurant & Craft Beer Bar is located at a corner space of level 5 of the relatively quiet building, and is definitely a case of IYKYK (if you know you know). I was drawn by the loft space and ample natural light from the double volume floor to ceiling glass panes. 

It is a cosy space with bar seats and a few tables on its lower level, while the upper loft level has a few lounge seats and a counter table. 

The Food Craft beers on tap are the highlights at In Bad Company where you can taste New Zealand and Belgium beers, just to name a few. There are also a selection of cocktails and natural wine. For food, the cuisine here leans towards Peranakan, Western and Japanese dishes. You can expect hearty bar grubs to go with the drinks. 

I started with the Sake Poached Tofu Nuggets (S$12) with Aonori Salt and Fermented Habanero Dip. Pretty addictive soft cubes of tofu and I love that dip! 

Another casual bar grub, the Herb Brined Wings (S$12) is coated with 10-spice dust and served with a Grandma’s Peranakan Chilli Chuka Dip. Crispy texture and that chilli dip is quite wicked! 

All vegetables come with horseradish sour cream, gremolata with Japanese chilli oil & seven spice, and I like the Charred Japanese Leeks (S$10) and Maitake Mushrooms (S$10). It reminds me of those in Japanese bars where the grilled vegetables go well with some sake. 

For a more substantial dish, the Scallop Mentaiko Linguine (S$33) is a mix of Brown Butter Hokkaido Scallops, Mentaiko & Aonori Cream Sauce, Lemon Butter Baby Spinach & Pea Tendrils, Ikura & Tobiko Roe. Very creamy and buttery flavour here from the sauce, which is best shared between two else it does get a little cloying after a few mouthfuls. 

Rants Seats are quite limited and walk-ins are not advisable.  

Will I Return Again? Chill bar vibe hidden from the hustle and bustle of Katong. Music is quite hip, service is good, and it is a great causal spot to catch up with friends.
