Food Review: The House Bar At Regent Singapore | Hidden Boutique Lounge Bar With Delicious Bar Bites
The Place The sister bar of Taiga restaurant, I checked out the newly opened The House Bar where its entrance is as inconspicuous as Taiga. The interior of The House Bar is dim and classy, where it is a boutique size lounge with a private room. I managed to get a table right at the bar counter, and my eyes were fixated on the while mountain wall display of bottles.

The Food There is a wide collection of sakes, from “La Isojiman” Junmai Daijingyo to the Ohmine x Sake Storm Cowboy Natural Press. The spirit selection includes a range of Japanese whiskies — the likes of Yamazaki 18-year-old and the Hibiki 21-year-old — lined up at the bar, alongside Macallans and Samarolis.

For bar bites, I am most amazed by how it is all prepared within the confined space of the open kitchen. I started with the refreshing Shizuoka Amera Tomato with Artic Salt (S$16), before proceeding to the Fatty Tuna Aburi with Yuzu (S$45).

The Negitoro Monaka with Ikura & Avocado (S$28) is a crisp sandwich which I can have multiple servings of. I like the texture of the wafers and the fresh tuna flavour.

For something more luxe, go for the Miyazaki Beef Sando (S$78). It looks like a simple sandwich where I usually prefer the bread to be more toasted, this version is really all about that succulent Miyazaki beef. The beef is delicious.

I couldn’t get enough of the beef, and hence my last dish was the Miyazaki Wagyu Claypot Rice (S$98). It is a steaming pot of rice served where the portion is good to share for two. The rice itself is very fragrant along with some dark sauce, while the sliced Miyazaki beef cubes does not disappoint and goes really well with the rice.

Rants Note that if you are seated at the bar counter, it can get quite busy with the staff busy preparing the food and drinks. If you are looking for a quieter experience, request for the table seats instead.
Will I Return Again? The House Bar is an intimate space for a cosy drinks session, where the bar bites are delicious. The obscure location of the bar within Regent Singapore adds to the charm as well.
This was an invited tasting, though all opinions expressed are our own.
