The Hotel I have absolutely no regrets staying in Sibenik, a quaint city in Croatia which is merely 40 minutes drive away from Zadar and Split. As part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World, D-Resort Šibenik is easily one of the best in Sibenik. The resort is only four years old and boasts a contemporary architecture, which is a stark juxtaposition to the old town of Sibenik. It is extremely convenient to drive to the old town from the resort, which only takes 5 minutes.

The lobby is very welcoming, which was my first impression of D-Resort Šibenik. The first time I noticed is the sheer number of books and magazines at the lobby, complete with home-style furniture and sofa which makes me feel quite at home instantly. If you drive, there are ample parking lots at the garage in the basement.

The Room The resort has 63 rooms, along with 3 private villas. I managed to check in to the highest floor of the resort, which is only four storeys high. The design and choice of furniture of the room is largely Nordic inspired, and is a relatively spacious size between 29-35 sqm for the standard room.

My favourite part of the room has to be the balcony, which offers an unparalleled view of Sibenik old town right across the sea. The weather in May was a little chilly, but I couldn’t resist spending a good time hanging out at the balcony with the amazing view right in front.

Other features of the room include a spacious bathroom, hardwood floor, and soundproof floor to ceiling windows which is ideal for a good night sleep if you are a light sleeper like me.

The Restaurants The main restaurant in the main building of the resort is Art Restaurant & Bar, which is also where breakfast is held at. As with most rooms, Art Restaurant boasts an equally splendid view of Sibenik old town, complete with an edgy contemporary look.

While the breakfast spread isn’t particularly extensive, it makes up for quality and I really enjoyed my breakfast here.

The Facilities A short 100m walk from the main building is where the fitness centre and outdoor pool are located. Hotel guests are granted complimentary excess to the indoor whirl pool within D-Spa, and this is also where D-Gym is located.

There is also a sauna room and a lounge area where you can chill and sip some tea.

As I walked to the fitness centre, I also passed by the private villas of the property which comes with its own private pool.

Rants If anything, there is no club lounge per se if this is something you are looking for in a resort stay. That said, I would rather spend my time exploring the charming old town than to lounge around.

Overall Experience I only had one night at D-Resort Šibenik and I wished I had the luxury of time to extend another night. The service I experienced here is very good, and in fact one of the best in my Croatia trip. Small luxury boutique size resorts has its charm and I fall into this category of guests. I highly recommend making a stop here if you are in Croatia.
