Food Review: The Coco Rice At Tiong Bahru Market & Food Centre | Halal Blue Pea Nasi Lemak By Aries Chan
The Place Tiong Bahru Food Centre is a foodie’s paradise as there are many stalls featuring local delights to choose from in a spacious and airy setting. I checked out The Coco Rice recently, a halal food establishment by Aries Chan which specialises in Nasi Lemak. This is a relatively new hawker stall in this fiercely competitive food centre which only opened in 2021.

The Food The menu is straightforward as there are only four sets (priced from S$6.90) to choose from, with each set featuring its signature blue pea rice. I went for Set B (S$7.90) which comes with a fried chicken thigh, sunny side up egg, peanuts, anchovies and cucumber. Of course, the sambal is not to be missed and it is quite generous in portion.

The star element for me here is the huge fried chicken thigh, which is well-marinated and is very flavourful and tender.

The blue pea rice itself could be a tad more ‘lemak’, while the sambal could afford to be a little sweeter as well.

That said, overall, it is still a good plate of nasi lemak for me.

Rants Price may be relatively steep in a hawker centre context, but the huge portion makes up for it.
Will I Return Again? There is no lack of food options in Tiong Bahru Food Centre and The Coco Rice is worth a try if you need to satisfy your nasi lemak cravings. The portion is quite huge and it is personally too much for me. My recommendation is to share one set with your dining partner, and try something else from other food stalls.
