Food Review: Danlao At Maxwell Food Centre | Cheap Creamy Scrambled Eggs Rice With Toppings Like Luncheon Meat & Chicken Cutlet

The Place Located in Maxwell Food Centre, Danlao (蛋佬) is a relatively new hawker stall which specialises in rice with egg along with various toppings and ingredients. The modern hawker concept is run by ex-chefs from popular US concept Eggslut, and what Danlao offers is silky egg on rice.

The Food The menu at Danlao is quite straightforward with about five different eggs on rice options where you simply choose the accompanying ingredient which you fancy the most. Prices start from S$4.50 for Tomato Egg Rice, and I went for the Luncheon Meat (S$5) and Chicken Cutlet (S$6) flavours. Other options include the likes of Prawn and Char Siew rice.

I love the Luncheon Meat rice where you get crisp chunky cubes of fried luncheon meat which is sinfully good. The texture of the egg is very silky and has the right degree of creaminess without coming across as overly buttery.

One gripe I have is the white rice itself, which was a tad dry and could definitely do with more sauce.

The Chicken Cutlet fared well for me too, where you get thick slices of crispy and juicy chicken meat.

Rants It was relatively packed when I visited on a weekday evening, hence do expect about 15-30 minutes wait for your food.

Will I Return Again? Great to see new generation of young hawkers in an established food centre like Maxwell, where Danlao is worth a try if you love your scrambled eggs. The concept is simple, and I think that they have got their eggs right at least. For now, Maxwell is not just about chicken rice.
