The Place Located in the sleepy Katong Square, Khao Hom By Rung Mama is relatively new Thai restaurant which opened along East Coast Road. It took over the space of the now-defunct Goldleaf Restaurant, and I am just glad that it is a positive addition to the sleepy mall. Khao Hom By Rung Mama is run by Thais, and this is their second outlet after the first outlet opened in Ang Mo Kio few years ago. 

The space of Khao Hom By Rung Mama is casual and is on level one of Katong Square where the tables fit couples or small dining groups. 

The Food The menu is very extensive, and prices are generally very reasonable with most dishes below S$15. 

For a start, I had the Grilled Moo Ping (Pork Skewer, S$12) which I thought was a tad too dry. 

The Pandan Chicken (S$12) is pretty good! Generous portions of chunky chicken meat which was quite tender. 

One of my must order dishes is the Thai Crispy & Fluffy Omelette (S$12) with Prawn (additional S$4), where the egg here is fluffy looking and crispy as well. 

For a soup dish, the Red Tom Yum Seafood (S$12) is not too spicy and easy to drink. 

Skip the Stir Fry Vermicelli (S$8) with Chicken, where I thought that the vermicelli taste was not flavourful enough, where I very much prefer the one I had at Kinnari Thai Cuisine in Joo Chiat previously. 

Alternatively, go for the Pineapple Fried Rice (S$9) where the rice is delicious and aromatic. It would be much better if it is served in an actual pineapple with pork floss. 

Other dishes I had were the Stir Fry Water Spinach (S$8) which is essentially ‘Kangkong’ and the Grilled Pork (S$12) with Homemade Sauce. 

Drinks wise, expect the usual Thai suspects like Homemade Ice Lemongrass (S$4) and Homemade Thai Ice Milk Tea (S$4). 

Rants The space at Katong Square does feel a little sleepy, especially with the dark furniture and interior. 

Will I Return Again? For a causal Thai meal in Katong, Khao Hom By Rung Mama is still worth a try for its wide variety of dishes and reasonable prices.
