Food Review: Sri Trat Restaurant & Bar, Bangkok | Affordable Michelin Bib Gourmand Thai Restaurant With Delicious Dishes From Home-Cooked Recipes

The Place I finally got to Sri Trat Restaurant & Bar in Bangkok last month, a popular Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant. I was lucky to secure a same day reservation at an odd hour meal at 3pm, and I was thankful. Sri Trat’s space is a charming rustic villa with exposed-brick walls, where I love the rustic dining space. The centrepiece of the space has to be the huge mural of a former Thai beauty queen, owner Wongwich Sripinyoo’s mother, which adds much character to its interior. The layout and table sizes are fit for couples or large dining groups, and reservation is highly recommended.

The Food The extensive menu showcases home-cooked recipes from Thailand’s far-east coastal town of Trat near Cambodia famous for its seafood and curries.

For a start, I had the Aromatic Clear Chicken Soup, Seasoned with Siam Cardamon Shoots and Thai Herbs (220THB). This soup is extremely tasty and fragrant, and it is just mildly spicy which makes it easy to drink.

The Red Curry with White Turmeric and Barracuda Fish (220THB) is another hit for me. Do not be deceived by the fiery red as the spiciness level is quite manageable. The curry is so good that I had more rice along with it than intended.

I initially wanted the usual Thai omelette but saw that the Egg Custard topped with Tasty Stir Fried Minced Pork (120THB) sounds quite different. Silky and smooth egg white texture, where the minced pork is slightly salty. It tastes like a Thai version of chawanmushi.

The Stir-fried Flat Rice Noodle with Trat’s Signature Sauce and Tofu (220THB) is similar to Phad Thai, though I very much prefer one of the vermicelli dish with egg which I had where it is way more delicious than the flat rice noodle.

Rants It is quite difficult to secure a table by walking in.

Will I Return Again? Sri Trat is a great casual Thai restaurant to head to especially in groups where you could try a wider variety of dishes. I did not manage to try that much since it was just two of us, and Sri Trat is one restaurant I would gladly be back for a good Thai meal.
